SUMMER PROGRAM: JULY 8 - AUGUST 16<br />

The <strong>Art</strong> Center <strong>Summer</strong> Program <strong>of</strong>fers art classes for students <strong>of</strong> all ages and abilities. Beginning with 3, 4 and 5 year olds, the <strong>Art</strong><br />

Center <strong>of</strong>fers New Masters! and ABC’s <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> on Wednesday mornings. The <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Art</strong> Camp for Kids! provides weeklong<br />

classroom art experiences for children ages 5 to 12 through a multimedia approach, while <strong>Art</strong>Ventures! for Preteens and<br />

the <strong>Summer</strong> School for Teens and Adults concentrate on the needs <strong>of</strong> preteens, teens and adults through an emphasis on<br />

specific disciplines and materials. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional artists and art educators provide instruction for all <strong>of</strong> these classes.<br />

Ages 8-10<br />

Explore the exciting territory<br />

where art and science overlap.<br />

Children will discover the rich<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> life under the guidance<br />

<strong>of</strong> an <strong>Art</strong> Center instructor and<br />

Science Center staff. Create using<br />

watercolor and tempera paint, and<br />

in 3D media such as wire, clay,<br />

paper maché and plaster.<br />

Enjoy our teen and adult studio classes<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered in the evening after the “hurly<br />

burly” <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Art</strong> Camp has quieted<br />

down. This is the perfect way to find<br />

time for yourself, or join a friend or family<br />

member in the studio!<br />

If you’re seeking time to advance ideas<br />

in your fused glass projects, then this<br />

studio class will produce that result.<br />

A one-on-one discussion with artist<br />

Verne Orlosk will encourage your work<br />

to progress. Scrap glass, tools and<br />

kiln time will be included. Purchase <strong>of</strong><br />

base glass can be made with our local<br />

<strong>Summer</strong> Fibers Studio<br />

Treat yourself to a summer <strong>of</strong> lovely<br />

evenings immersed in beautiful colors,<br />

textures and designs only achieved by<br />

working with fibers! Bring your idea for<br />

that tapestry you have always wanted<br />

to weave, or that felting project put<br />

<strong>of</strong>f by life’s busyness. Fibers instructor<br />

Cheryl Holbert will be on hand to see<br />

you through the process as you explore<br />

your own creative potential. Open to<br />

beginning and experienced fiber artists.<br />

Wheel Throwing in the<br />

Evening<br />

This class is for students who are<br />

interested in learning and exploring basic<br />

skills on the potter’s wheel. Students will<br />

produce mugs, plates, bowls and vases in<br />

this fun introductory course. Techniques<br />

from wedging, centering, trimming<br />

and glazing will be introduced and<br />

demonstrated.<br />

Heard <strong>of</strong> Pinterest Stop pinning and join<br />

self-described Pinterest addict and DIYer<br />

Neva Cole, as we actually try some <strong>of</strong><br />

these great projects that we’ve all pinned<br />

but never had the time or the nerve to<br />

try! Every week will feature a new crafty<br />

Pinterest Project, giving you a chance to<br />

get messy, be creative and recycle those<br />

cans/light bulbs/scraps <strong>of</strong> fabric we know<br />

you’ve been saving for just this occasion!<br />

Acrylic Painting for the<br />

Beginner<br />

Instructor: Monique Staples<br />

Mon. 7-9 pm<br />

$180, Maximum 12 students<br />

Discover the ease and versatility <strong>of</strong> this<br />

painting medium. Join Monique Staples<br />

as she guides you through the many<br />

approaches <strong>of</strong> acrylic painting, from wet<br />

into wet applications to dry painting<br />

techniques, thinned with water or straight<br />

out <strong>of</strong> the tube, with a brush or palette<br />

knife. You will learn that acrylic painting is<br />

fun and inspiring. Materials not provided.<br />
