10 Art School for Teens & Adults ages 15 to Adult PAINTING & MIXED MEDIA: Teens & Adults Teens & Adults Teens & Adults Expressive Painting Instructor: June Latti Mon. 10 am-noon $165, Maximum 8 students The power of painting lies in the creative process itself. Arouse your curiosity and your desire to create, and experience how readily available your creativity is.This class is designed to challenge and overcome students’ self-imposed barriers to creativity. Find your unique painter’s voice and paint with passion! Construction, Assemblage and Collage Instructor: Kristi Nyhan Mon. 6:30-8:30 pm $165, Maximum 8 students Create your own worlds using construction, assemblage and collage techniques. Students will explore a variety of image-making approaches, being guided by such artists as Joseph Cornell, Pablo Picasso, Romare Bearden and Varujan Boghosian. This multi-media class will incorporate drawing, painting, collage and sculpture into the art-making process. Students of all levels are welcome! Intro to Watercolor Instructor: Ellen Davison Mon. 6:30-8:30 pm $150, Maximum 8 students Join this class and experience the expressive nature of this wonderful paint medium, while learning to control its fluid movement, or let it go and see where it takes you! You will acquire a basic knowledge of watercolor practices, exploring color temperature, color mixing, light and shadow. Techniques such as wetin-wet, wet-on-dry and glazing will be introduced, using the still-life and landscape as subject matter. Materials not provided. SPRING MAY 6-June 10 Adults Teens & Adults Adults Beyond the Basics: Acrylics for the More Adventurous Instructor: Linn Krikorian Tues. 9:30 am-noon $165, Maximum 12 students If you’ve mastered the basics of acrylics and want to try to stretch your artistic abilities, this is the class for you! Students may choose their own focus, or work from a challenging still-life set-up. Move beyond your standard application of paint to picture plane by exploring various gels, mediums and painting effects. Materials not provided. Art supplies are available at the Museum Shop at a 20% student discount. A supply list is available. Oil Painting: The Basics Instructors: June Latti and John O’Shaugnessy Wed. 9:30 am-noon with June or Wed. 6:30-9 pm with John $165, Maximum 8 students Join the oil painting studio no matter your level of experience. As you work from the still-life, reproductions of master paintings, or photographs, you will gain the skills you need to be a more assured painter in oil. Learn why oil painting is loved by so many in this exciting introductory course. Materials not provided. Art supplies are available at the Museum Shop at 20% student discount. Open Studio: Acrylics Studio Monitor: Linn Krikorian Wed. 10 am-12:30 pm $90 for 5 prepaid sessions This is a drop in session for Art Center students or intermediate to advanced artists as a time to use our studio and focus on individual projects. An instructor will be present to answer questions, but participant’s projects will be self-guided. Students will receive an “Open Studio Punch Card” to gain access to the studio for 5 prepaid sessions. Punch cards are available through the Art Center office. Teens & Adults Adults Teens & Adults Acrylic Painting for the Beginner Instructor: Monique Staples Wed. 7-9 pm $150, Maximum 12 students Discover the ease and versatility of this painting medium. Join Monique Staples as she guides you through the many approaches of acrylic painting, from wet into wet applications to dry painting techniques, thinned with water or straight out of the tube, with a brush or palette knife. You will learn that acrylic painting is fun and inspiring. Materials not provided. Art supplies are available at the Museum Shop at a 20% student discount. A supply list is available. A Big Splash! Expressive Watercolor Painting Instructor: Bruce McColl Thurs. 10 am-noon, 5/9 - 5/30 $135, Maximum 8 students Join artist and Art Center Director, Bruce McColl, in this dynamic class in which students will discover the virtues of painterly watercolor while working from interior arrangements that includes flowers, still life elements, a live model and landscapes. Rooted in the traditions of modernism, and inspired by painters such as Matisse, Marin and Hofmann, Bruce will challenge students to broaden their perspective on the application of watercolor painting by using expressive color and dynamic movement on a large scale. This course is recommended for students with some experience in watercolor painting who are willing to take risks with their painting practice. The Art of the Portrait Instructor: John O’Shaughnessy Sat. 9:30 am-noon $165, Maximum 8 students The expressive art of portrait painting has long been used to capture the personality of an individual. In this class, students will be using the versatile medium of oil paint to learn the techniques used to portray this essence. Work from a live model as well as explore self-portraiture over a period of 5 weeks, and immerse yourself in this time-honored genre of painting. Materials not provided. SUMMER PROGRAM: JULY 8 - AUGUST 16 The Art Center Summer Program offers art classes for students of all ages and abilities. Beginning with 3, 4 and 5 year olds, the Art Center offers New Masters! and ABC’s of Art on Wednesday mornings. The Summer Art Camp for Kids! provides weeklong classroom art experiences for children ages 5 to 12 through a multimedia approach, while ArtVentures! for Preteens and the Summer School for Teens and Adults concentrate on the needs of preteens, teens and adults through an emphasis on specific disciplines and materials. Professional artists and art educators provide instruction for all of these classes. Partners in art Squam Lake Natural Science Center Experience this exciting educational collaboration with the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness, NH. Art in the Evening for Teens and Adults Monday Evening Classes Enjoy our teen and adult studio classes offered in the evening after the “hurly burly” of the Art Camp has quieted down. This is the perfect way to find time for yourself, or join a friend or family member in the studio! JUL 08 through AUG 12 Directed Studio: Fused Glass Instructor: Verne Orlosk Mon. 6:30-8:30 pm $200, Maximum 8 students If you’re seeking time to advance ideas in your fused glass projects, then this studio class will produce that result. A one-on-one discussion with artist Verne Orlosk will encourage your work to progress. Scrap glass, tools and kiln time will be included. Summer Fibers Studio Instructor: Cheryl Holbert Mon. 6:30-9 pm $250, Maximum 8 students Treat yourself to a summer of lovely evenings immersed in beautiful colors, textures and designs only achieved by working with fibers! Bring your idea for that tapestry you have always wanted to weave, or that felting project put off by life’s busyness. Fibers instructor Cheryl Holbert will be on hand to see you through the process as you explore your own creative potential. Open to beginning and experienced fiber artists. Wheel Throwing in the Evening Instructor: Lauren Dadmun Mon. 6:30-9 pm $250, Maximum 8 students This class is for students who are interested in learning and exploring basic skills on the potter’s wheel. Students will produce mugs, plates, bowls and vases in this fun introductory course. Techniques from wedging, centering, trimming and glazing will be introduced and demonstrated. Craft Night: Find your Pinspiration! Instructor: Neva Cole Mon. 7-9 pm $180, Maximum 10 students Heard of Pinterest Stop pinning and join self-described Pinterest addict and DIYer Neva Cole, as we actually try some of these great projects that we’ve all pinned but never had the time or the nerve to try! Every week will feature a new crafty Pinterest Project, giving you a chance to get messy, be creative and recycle those cans/light bulbs/scraps of fabric we know you’ve been saving for just this occasion!
