SPRING PROGRAM: MAY 6 - JUNE 10<br />

The <strong>Art</strong> Center <strong>Spring</strong> 2013 Program <strong>of</strong>fers art classes for students <strong>of</strong> all ages and abilities. <strong>Art</strong> Foundations for Children<br />

provides classroom art experiences for children from ages 3 to 12 through a multimedia approach, while <strong>Art</strong>Ventures for<br />

Preteens! and <strong>Art</strong> School for Teens and Adults concentrate on the needs <strong>of</strong> older students through an emphasis on specific<br />

disciplines and materials. The <strong>Art</strong> Center is committed to quality educational opportunities, therefore pr<strong>of</strong>essional artists and art<br />

educators provide instruction for all <strong>of</strong> these courses with an emphasis on small classroom situations and personalized instruction.<br />

for Kids ages 3 to 12<br />

Welcome to the <strong>Art</strong> Center program<br />

for youth art. These courses introduce<br />

young students to a wide range <strong>of</strong><br />

ideas and approaches to art-making.<br />

Students in the youth program have<br />

the opportunity to grow into and<br />

matriculate through the curriculum.<br />

With the guidance <strong>of</strong> our faculty,<br />

students work from the inspiration <strong>of</strong><br />

themes in the history <strong>of</strong> art as well as<br />

selected objects from the renowned<br />

<strong>Currier</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> collection. All<br />

materials are provided.<br />

Is your child ready for their first art<br />

experience At 3 years <strong>of</strong> age children<br />

are ready and eager to get messy<br />

with art. With the guidance <strong>of</strong> our<br />

instructor, parents and their children<br />

will together explore the imaginative<br />

regions <strong>of</strong> drawing, painting,<br />

printmaking and sculpting. Parents and<br />

children will playfully explore color,<br />

shape, form and texture, as well as<br />

share a wonderful appreciation <strong>of</strong> art.<br />

All about Animals<br />

This multimedia class will explore the<br />

animal kingdom, everything from cats<br />

and dogs to zebras and elephants. We<br />

will learn about color, form and texture,<br />

using a variety <strong>of</strong> materials to create<br />

paintings, collages, sculptures and more,<br />

with animals as our inspiration.<br />

Birds, Bees and Butterflies!<br />

Discover the world <strong>of</strong> small flying things!<br />

Through observation, storytelling and<br />

creative experimentation, our students<br />

will investigate the natural world with<br />

a particular focus on birds and insects.<br />

Drawing, painting, printmaking and<br />

sculpture will be among the many forms<br />

<strong>of</strong> art explored.<br />

Clay for Kids<br />

Instructor: Pam Difloures<br />

Mon. 3:45-5:15 pm<br />

In this introductory class students<br />

will learn a variety <strong>of</strong> hand-building<br />

techniques, such as pinch, coil and<br />

slab construction. Projects will consist<br />

<strong>of</strong> sculptures, tiles, coil pots and slab<br />

vessels. Let your imagination be your<br />

guide as you experiment with surface<br />

treatments, texture and a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

glazing applications including working<br />

with wax resist.<br />

Draw, Paint and Print!<br />

Instructor: June Latti<br />

Wed. 3:45-5 pm<br />

$100, Maximum 12 students<br />

Try your child’s hand at all the 2D arts.<br />

Starting with drawing, we’ll develop your<br />

child’s skills <strong>of</strong> drawing from observation.<br />

Moving to paint, your child will explore the<br />

elements <strong>of</strong> expression using bold color<br />

on a large scale. Finally, end the term with<br />

dynamic multi-colored prints. This class<br />

has something for everyone!<br />

This multi-media class will focus on and<br />

celebrate the art <strong>of</strong> American artists who<br />

have created bright and LIVELY artwork<br />

over the last 50 years! The artists we’ll<br />

focus on include many from the <strong>Currier</strong><br />

collections, such as the flags <strong>of</strong> Jasper<br />

Johns, the story quilts <strong>of</strong> Faith Ringgold,<br />

colorfully painted mosaics <strong>of</strong> Sol Lewitt,<br />

and the <strong>Currier</strong>’s signature Mark DiSuvero<br />

sculpture.<br />

ABC’s <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong><br />

Instructor: Amy Croteau<br />

Mon. 4-5 pm<br />

$80, Maximum 10 students<br />

A multimedia class designed to inspire<br />

a young student’s imagination and<br />

interest in art. Lessons include drawing,<br />

painting, collage, printmaking, clay<br />

and sculpture. Foster confidence and<br />

independence in your child, while<br />

increasing their skill level in accordance<br />

with their age and developmental stage.<br />

Ages 6- 8<br />

SPRING MAY 6-June 10<br />

Gardens, Flowers and Fruit<br />

Instructor: Monique Staples<br />

Tues. 4-5 pm<br />

$80, Maximum 10 students<br />

Paint and sculpt your favorite gardens,<br />

flowers and fruit using tempera,<br />

watercolor, wire, paper mache and other<br />

media. Our young artists will be inspired<br />

by great art related to the still-life and<br />

gardens while they explore paint and<br />

sculpture in this lively course for young<br />

artists.<br />

Ages 6 - 8<br />

<strong>Art</strong> and Children’s Literature<br />

Instructor: Jennifer Silva<br />

Sat. 10-11:15 am<br />

$100, Maximum 12 students<br />

In this multimedia class students will be<br />

introduced to the images and stories<br />

<strong>of</strong> great children’s literature artists and<br />

authors such as Eric Carles, Leo Leonni,<br />

and Esphyr Slobodkina, among many.<br />

Each week we will focus on creating art<br />

inspired by these stories resulting in an<br />

original book by each child at the end <strong>of</strong><br />

the term..
