For Kids ages 5 to 14
The Art Center hosts a week-long
Vacation Art Camp for children ages
5-14 years during the spring school
vacation. Multimedia art activities
include painting, drawing, printmaking,
sculpture, pottery and art appreciation. This program is popular with
families who are seeking an enrichment experience for their children
while school is out of session. We organize the Vacation Week Art
Camp around themes that are commonly found in the visual arts and
the Currier Museum collections. Enrollment is limited so register your
child promptly! Children aged 6 to 14 (1st grade +) register for a full
day, from 9 am-3 pm. 5 and 6 year olds (Kindergarten - 1st grade)
have the option of mornings only, from 9 am to noon.
Forts, Teepees and Settlements
April 22 - 26
In conjunction with the exciting spring exhibition
Abigail Anne Newbold: Crafting Settlement at
the Currier Museum of Art our young artists will be
making art, crafts and live-in dwellings. Rooted in
ideas of self-sufficient living and inspired by New
England craft traditions, our campers will imagine
and build their own settlement in the backyard of
the Art Center, facilitated by our instructors and
inspired by Ms. Newbold’s museum installation.
Using found objects and elements from nature, and
incorporating arty materials, we will collectively build
the ultimate kid camp from the structures we live in,
to the utensils we eat off of, and so much more!
Full Day Tuition: $270 Half Day Tuition: $160 After Camp Care is available from 3-4:30 pm for an additional $30.
Vacation art
Intensives
For Teens ages 14 to 18
Monday - Friday
Immerse yourself in art! These classes are open to students aged 14 to 18 of all
levels of ability. These courses are perfectly suited for students wishing to develop
a portfolio and looking for greater challenges in the studio. All art supplies are
provided for these courses unless otherwise noted. Course prices include art supply
costs and modeling fees where applicable.
Acrylic Painting for Teens
Instructor: Monique Staples
9 am-noon
$200, Maximum 10 students
Students will explore still life and photograph-based imagery using
the versatile medium of acrylic paint. This water-based and quickdrying
medium is perfect for young students who are seeking
greater skill in their ability to paint. Students will be encouraged
to paint larger imagery on canvas surfaces, and will be exposed
to many fine paintings from the Currier collection. Paints, brushes,
and canvas not provided. A supply list is available.
Wheel Throwing Intensive
Instructor: Lauren Dadmun
1-4 pm
$250, Maximum 8 students
Through exploring various techniques on the potter’s wheel,
this class will focus on the art of vessel making. Some of the
forms we will make include cups, bowls, plates and lidded
containers. We will also learn different methods of surface
design such as glazing, carving and sgraffito. This class is
for beginners as well as for those who want to build upon
any previous wheel throwing experience.
