This class is for the student who is<br />

interested in learning and exploring<br />

basic skills on the potter’s wheel to<br />

create functional forms such as mugs,<br />

bowls, plates and vases. Techniques<br />

from wedging, centering, trimming,<br />

glazing and surface design will be<br />

introduced and demonstrated. The cost<br />

<strong>of</strong> the course will include 25lbs <strong>of</strong> clay<br />

and additional clay can be purchased if<br />

needed.<br />

Open Ceramics Studio<br />

This is a drop-in session for <strong>Art</strong> Center<br />

students or intermediate to advanced<br />

ceramic artists as a time to use our<br />

studio and focus on individual projects.<br />

An instructor will be present to answer<br />

questions, but participant’s projects<br />

will be self-guided. Clay is available for<br />

purchase. Students will receive an “Open<br />

Studio Punch Card” to gain access to<br />

the studio for 5 prepaid sessions. Punch<br />

cards are available through the <strong>Art</strong><br />

Center <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

Explore the creative possibilities <strong>of</strong> the<br />

ancient technique <strong>of</strong> Lost Wax Casting,<br />

a process <strong>of</strong> carving and shaping<br />

in wax, which is then reproduced in<br />

molten metal! Design your own rings,<br />

pendants, charms and small sculptures<br />

and replicate them in silver and bronze!<br />

This is an exciting class where anything<br />

is possible. Students <strong>of</strong> all levels are<br />

welcome.<br />

“Lo-Tech Jewelry” is the art <strong>of</strong> making<br />

jewelry using techniques which can be<br />

easily reproduced at home using a few<br />

hand tools – no torch required! Join<br />

Metalsmith and Jewelry artist Joy Raskin<br />

as she introduces you to the techniques<br />

<strong>of</strong> making wire jewelry! Students will<br />

coil, wrap, braid, crotchet, knit, twist and<br />

much more to make all kinds <strong>of</strong> fabulous<br />

jewelry and accessories. Make your own<br />

jewelry and wear it immediately!<br />

Fused Glass Innovations<br />

This class will allow students to further<br />

their experience in glass. Projects will be<br />

guided by revisiting processes that allow<br />

more creativity. Kiln-glass work affords<br />

an opportunity for critical thinking and<br />

an exciting combination <strong>of</strong> techniques.<br />

Prerequisite: Four previous fused glass<br />

classes required.<br />

Kiln Concepts<br />

Kiln work is the necessary component<br />

in having your fused glass be the<br />

art you envision. Understanding the<br />

volume and science <strong>of</strong> glass, how to<br />

schedule the programs, how to include<br />

refractory elements and having hands on<br />

experience will produce better results.<br />

At least two projects can be designed<br />

and tested. Patience will also be a virtue<br />

in this class that focuses on studio<br />

management and production.<br />

Learning “how to see” is an important<br />

skill in drawing. Use this sixsession<br />

class and our instructor’s<br />

encouragement to renew your artistic<br />

spirit and acquire new skills. We’ll be<br />

using graphite, conte’ crayons and<br />

charcoal to practice still-life, value<br />

studies and landscape sketching.<br />

<strong>Art</strong>ists have been inspired to work from<br />

the figure for centuries. Discover the<br />

challenges that have lured so many<br />

artists into the life-drawing studio<br />

and kept them there. Learn the basic<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> line, shape, form and<br />

proportion while using a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

media including graphite, charcoal,<br />

conte crayon, pastel and more.<br />

Mixed Media Drawing<br />

for Teens<br />

This class is geared toward any teen<br />

that wants to explore new materials<br />

and drawing techniques. The focus<br />

is on process and will use nontraditional<br />

methods <strong>of</strong> creating line,<br />

value and texture. Graphite, pastel,<br />

ink drawings and image transfers are<br />

just some <strong>of</strong> the materials that will be<br />

used. All students will be encouraged<br />

to experiment and combine media to<br />

achieve their “voice”, and see what<br />

effects can be produced within their<br />

individual pieces.<br />

Drawing for the Aspiring<br />

Cartoonist<br />

Instructor: Jerry Holbert<br />

Wed. 6:30-8:30 pm<br />

$150, Maximum 12 students<br />

Learn how to refine your drawing skills<br />

in a way that will set your cartoons<br />

apart! This class covers essential<br />

drawing techniques, while providing an<br />

opportunity to develop your own unique<br />

and humorous stories through the art <strong>of</strong><br />

cartoon illustration. Open to beginning<br />

as well as experienced cartoonists.<br />
