One-Week Intensive Day Classes<br />

Immerse yourself in art! These classes are<br />

open to students <strong>of</strong> all levels <strong>of</strong> ability from<br />

beginning to more experienced artists. The<br />

curriculum aims to <strong>of</strong>fer students training<br />

in specific methods, media and conceptual<br />

approaches to art-making. Perfectly suited for<br />

young students wishing to develop a portfolio<br />

and older students looking for greater<br />

challenges in the studio. All art supplies are<br />

provided for these courses unless otherwise<br />

noted. Course prices include art supply costs<br />

and modeling fees where applicable.<br />

Session 1<br />

Endless Color!<br />

Fine tune your drawings with the<br />

addition <strong>of</strong> colored pencil. There are<br />

several techniques and unlimited<br />

possibilities in learning how to layer<br />

color. Discover how this medium<br />

is used for more than just a school<br />

project. We will use featured artists for<br />

inspiration on numerous projects from<br />

small to large.<br />

Watercolor, Drawing and<br />

Painterly Prints<br />

Instructor: John O’Shaughnessy<br />

9 am-noon<br />

$225, Maximum 10 student<br />

Working from both life and your<br />

imagination, explore watercolor as it<br />

relates to drawing. Students will work<br />

with watercolor combined with ink and<br />

colored pencil, while exploring various<br />

techniques <strong>of</strong> watercolor painting. The<br />

class will also have a chance to work on<br />

fine painterly prints on heavy rag paper<br />

using the new technology water-based<br />

inks. This is a perfect way to learn water<br />

media and mono-printing together.<br />

Oil Painting Basics<br />

$200, Maximum 8 students<br />

Join the oil painting studio no<br />

matter your level <strong>of</strong> experience.<br />

As you work from the still-life,<br />

reproductions <strong>of</strong> master paintings,<br />

or photographs, you will gain the<br />

skills you need to be a more assured<br />

painter in oil. Learn why oil painting<br />

is loved by so many in this exciting<br />

introductory course. Materials not<br />

provided. <strong>Art</strong> supplies are available<br />

at the <strong>Museum</strong> Shop at 20% student<br />

discount. A supply list is available.<br />

Session 2<br />

Garden Sculpture<br />

Instructor: Rachel Montroy<br />

9 am–noon<br />

$250, Maximum 6 students<br />

Create an outdoor ceramic sculpture<br />

to complement your garden or<br />

landscaping. With the natural world<br />

as your inspiration, each student<br />

will make a sculpture customized<br />

to the colors and shapes it will be<br />

surrounded by in your yard. Examples<br />

<strong>of</strong> possibilities will include large,<br />

abstracted or realistic forms, based<br />

on flowers, seeds and pods, shells<br />

and much more. No experience<br />

necessary. Just bring in pictures <strong>of</strong><br />

your garden or backyard to start the<br />

brainstorming process!<br />

Wheel Throwing<br />

Intensive<br />

Instructor: Rachel Montroy<br />

1-4 pm<br />

$250, Maximum 8 student<br />

Through exploring various techniques<br />

on the potter’s wheel, this class will<br />

focus on the art <strong>of</strong> vessel making.<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> the forms we will make<br />

include cups, bowls, plates and<br />

lidded containers. We will also learn<br />

different methods <strong>of</strong> surface design<br />

such as glazing, carving and sgraffito.<br />

This class is for beginners as well as<br />

for those who want to build upon any<br />

previous wheel throwing experience.<br />

Landscapes and Cityscapes<br />

in Oil<br />

$200, Maximum 8 students<br />

Roam the neighborhood around the<br />

<strong>Currier</strong> with paints, brushes and easels<br />

in hand, and engage in capturing the<br />

effects <strong>of</strong> light on trees, lawns, and city<br />

buildings. Taking inspiration from painters<br />

in the <strong>Currier</strong> collection such as realists<br />

Monet and Hopper, and modernists<br />

Zorach and Hartley. Materials not<br />

provided. <strong>Art</strong> supplies are available at the<br />

<strong>Museum</strong> Shop at 20% student discount.<br />

Session 3<br />

Images on Fabric -<br />

Imagining the Endless<br />

Possibilities<br />

Instructor: Rebecca Davison<br />

9 am–noon<br />

$275, Maximum 8 students<br />

Through pattern and design, turn fabric<br />

into dazzling works <strong>of</strong> art. Looking at<br />

fiber process from around the world<br />

this class will cover image transferring,<br />

batik, Shibori dying and silk painting.<br />

Projects will explore repeat pattern<br />

design, color layering and designing<br />

your own fabric. Be it fiber art or fabric<br />

design you are interested in this is the<br />

class for you.<br />

Jewelry Making:<br />

Introduction to Lost Wax<br />

Casting<br />

Instructor: Joe Montroy<br />

1-4 pm<br />

$275, Maximum 8 students<br />

Explore the creative possibilities <strong>of</strong> the<br />

ancient technique <strong>of</strong> creating jewelry<br />

using the LOST WAX method. This is a<br />

traditional process, which begins with<br />

the carving and shaping <strong>of</strong> wax and<br />

ends with molten metal being poured<br />

into your creation! This is an exciting<br />

class where anything is possible;<br />

create rings, pendants and even small<br />

sculptures. Students <strong>of</strong> all levels are<br />

welcome.<br />
