As coordinator I feel very honoured that Sailability Albury Wodonga
received a nomination for the Community Group of the Year at the
Australia Day Albury Awards. I am extremely proud of this group and wish
to thank the sub-committee and regular volunteers for making this program
worthy of such recognition. Although we didn’t win the award (Carevan
took the well-deserved honour), hopefully, we have raised awareness of
our program through this nomination and by attending the event.
Sailability Victoria has sent a supply of their new brochures, which you will
find in the brochure stand at the Club. This brochure not only lists all the
Sailability programs in Victoria but also explains about Sailability in its
many forms. It also includes a donation slip for anyone after a tax
deductable donation.
Saturday 12 th January’s session saw 23 people go for a sail. The day ran
smoothly with the sailors spreading their arrival times rather than all turning
up at once. Thanks to Simon Brown for also having his Access 303 on the
water and taking people for a sail. This allowed us to take more people at
once with many getting a second sail in. Thanks to all volunteers who
assisted as we had some of our regulars away on holidays.
Kalianna had their first Sailability Experience on Tuesday 22 nd January. A huge thanks to Lily & Matilda
Richardson, George & Oscar Henderson and Simon Thomson for taking the participants for a sail. Laura
Thomson assisted on shore coordinating our skippers to ensure they all got a break, as she was unable to sail
herself. Kalianna will have their second Sailability Experience on Tuesday 5th Feb 10am – 1pm. Obviously, our
juniors will be back at school and other volunteers back at work, so if you are available to assist set up is from
9am.
We held our first Corporate Sailability Experience on Wednesday 23 rd January. Corporate Sailability is about
opening the program up to able-bodied groups as a team bonding or social event. Eighteen people from the
Wodonga Primary School Leadership Group and their partners attended and had a two-hour sailing experience
followed by drinks and pizza on the shaded lawn. The funds from hiring the boats for such Corporate events go
back into the Sailability program to benefit all-ability sailors. If you know of any companies or social groups that
may be interested in this program please give them my name, number &/or email. Or if you would like to assist in
marketing &/or approaching companies with this new offering please let me know.
Dates for the remainder of this year’s program are listed below. Please make note of these dates and consider
offering a few hours of your day to bring a smile to someone’s face. If you want to know more information about
the program or volunteering please email or phone any questions or talk to Cathy Richardson or myself at the
Club.
