20 RECOMMENDATIONS 20.1 Recommendations: Development of new facilities or destinations 20.1.1 Sporting Reserves It is crucial that in all future master plans, as identified by The Active Sporting Reserves and Community Hubs Study (2010), the viability of provision for public toilets needs to be considered, assessed and discussed in the light of this strategy. 20.1.2 Prioritisation of new facilities It is suggested that the clearly defined process as presented in Stages 1-5 above (refer to point 18) been implemented in the assessment of new sites considered for provision of public toilets, including district and regional parks. This will reduce needless subjective debates, reports and community and political lobbying during the decision-making process. 20.1.3 General Recommendations: Provision of new facilities In addition to the specific recommendations made above, it is also recommended that the City of Armadale consider the following: Recommendation 1. That the Council toilet map be further updated to identify the toilets with disability access and be placed on Council’s web site and provided to the “National Toilet Map”. Where only one public toilet facility can be provided at a location, that a disabled unisex toilet - which is accessible to dependent users (elderly, children and people with disabilities) as well as care providers of children (parents) and dependent adults, even if they are not from the same gender - should be provided. Provide international signage, in accordance with Part 5 to all new facilities. Assess and advocate accordingly to State Government for the provision of public toilet facilities at Challis and Sherwood stations if/when required. All new facilities be designed and constructed with Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles (See Appendix 1) and in accordance with the design guidelines as set out in part 5. 20.2 Recommendations: Improvement of existing public toilet facilities The following actions and timeframes are recommended for works to the City’s existing public toilets as described in Part 3: Page 38
