A PORTUGUESE HORSE BRIDLE, EARLY 19TH CENTURY<br />

of black leather applied with green silk thread, the headpiece<br />

and the blinkers each applied with a large silvered<br />

plaque chased with a coat-of-arms incorporating elements<br />

of the Portuguese Royal arms beneath a coronet and<br />

enclosed by a wreath of laurel, the upper and lower bands<br />

each applied with an oval silvered boss chased with<br />

flowers and scrolls, fitted with a plume-holder at the top<br />

with tall feather plume (moth damage), with silvered<br />

buckles throughout: mounted on a finely modelled plastic<br />

horse’s head on an oval oak mount<br />

CENTURY<br />

of red morocco embroidered with a scrolling pattern of<br />

bullion thread, the head-piece incorporating a large shaped<br />

white metal plaque overlaid with a gilt-brass panel pierced<br />

with scrollwork centring on a domed boss and with shaped<br />

pendants, the nose band with a matching smaller plaque,<br />

fitted with steel bit, a pair of reins, the lower straps<br />

terminating with a gilt-brass domed finial incorporating a<br />

celestial mask en suite with the head-piece, and with<br />

matching pierced and chased gilt-brass buckles throughout,<br />

head not included<br />
