AN UNUSUAL 32 BORE SPORTING RIFLE, MID-17TH<br />

CENTURY, CONVERTED TO PERCUSSION CIRCA 1860 BY<br />

J.G. PICKER, LEIPZIG,<br />

with heavy octagonal swamped barrel rifled with eight<br />

narrow grooves, fitted with brass barleycorn fore-sight and<br />

standing back-sight, signed on the breech, flat lock-plate<br />

boldly inscribed ‘V. Kolleritz’ ahead of the lock, double set<br />

trigger (incomplete), figured walnut full stock, fishtail butt<br />

(minor repairs) with flat comb shaped at the front for the<br />

thumb, steel trigger-guard shaped for the fingers, fitted<br />

with a pair of lugs beneath the back-sight, steel butt-plate, a<br />

pair of bone ramrod-pipes, and bone fore-end cap, and<br />

original bone-tipped ramrod (now seized)<br />

A 14 BORE D.B. PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN BY<br />

SAMUEL & CHARLES SMITH, PRINCES STREET, LONDON,<br />

NO. 5396 FOR 1844<br />

with sighted twist barrels retaining traces of a signature on<br />

the rib, engraved case-hardened breeches fitted with<br />

platinum plugs (nipples replaced), engraved case-hardened<br />

breech tang incorporating a hammer fence on each side,<br />

signed detented locks engraved with scrolling foliage and<br />

border ornament, engraved hammers decorated with a<br />

trellis pattern and a scroll of foliage, figured walnut halfstock<br />

with chequered grip, previously fitted with a cheek<br />

pad on the right of the butt, engraved steel mounts<br />

including trigger-guard and butt-cap, silver barrel bolt<br />

escutcheons, silver escutcheon engraved with the owner’s<br />

initial ‘W’, and original brass-tipped wooden ramrod<br />
