A RARE .700 CALIBRE FRENCH MODEL 1816 FLINTLOCK<br />

MUSKET OF THE GARDES DU CORPS DE MONSIEUR<br />

with 103cm barrel stamped with a fleur-de-lys mark<br />

beneath the breech and retained by three brass barrel<br />

bands, one forming a ramrod-pipe, regulation lock<br />

inscribed ‘St Etienne Mfre Royale’, struck with a further<br />

fleur-de-lys mark and fitted with brass drum pan-cover,<br />

walnut full stock impressed with the letters ‘VDF’ in a<br />

triangle and ‘PLD’ beneath a stylised cockerel within a<br />

rondel on the right and arsenal numerals on the left of the<br />

butt, and the name ‘Prenat’ opposite the lock, brass mounts<br />

of regulation type including butt-plate stamped ‘C. Noailles’,<br />

escutcheon decorated with a crown and the collars of the<br />

order of St Michel and St Esprit, a pair of steel sling<br />

swivels, steel ramrod, complete with an early buff leather<br />

sling and remaining in good clean condition throughout<br />
