A 16 BORE D.B. PERCUSSION PISTOL BY CHARLES<br />

with rebrowned barrels signed on the rib and fitted with<br />

silver bead fore-sight, scroll-engraved case-hardened<br />

breech stamped with platinum-lined maker’s stamps,<br />

platinum plugs, and inlaid with a platinum line, scrollengraved<br />

case-hardened grooved breech tang, signed<br />

flush-fitting bolted locks engraved with scrolling foliage and<br />

border ornament, figured walnut half-stock, chequered<br />

butt, scroll-engraved trigger-guard with pineapple finial,<br />

associated stirrup ramrod, engraved silver escutcheon with<br />

the owner’s crest and initials ‘IHM’, and horn fore-end cap<br />

Charles Moore is recorded at this address circa 1825-42.<br />

The crest is that of Middleton of, variously, Stockfield Park,<br />

Yorkshire, Crowfield Hall, Shrubland Hall and Broke Hall<br />

Suffolk; and the Grove, Norwich.<br />

over the breech and fitted with stirrup ramrod beneath,<br />

scroll-engraved breech and breech tang, signed border and<br />

scroll-engraved flush-fitting lock with blued bolt safetycatch,<br />

figured walnut full stock, chequered butt, engraved<br />

steel trigger-guard with traces of original blue, silver-plated<br />

butt-cap, vacant German silver escutcheon and horn foreend<br />
