A. Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding Basics<br />

At the end <strong>of</strong> the training the participants will be able <strong>to</strong>:<br />

• Name three advantages <strong>of</strong> breastfeeding <strong>for</strong> the baby and <strong>for</strong> the mother<br />

• State why early initiation <strong>of</strong> breastfeeding is important<br />

• Help a mother <strong>of</strong> a 0–2-month-old baby with correct positioning and attachment<br />

• Define exclusive breastfeeding<br />

• Identify three common difficulties <strong>of</strong> breastfeeding and their prevention, symp<strong>to</strong>ms,<br />

and solutions<br />

• Identify the age at which <strong>to</strong> begin introducing foods<br />

• Describe baby’s first foods (local, available, and af<strong>for</strong>dable)<br />

• Describe the management <strong>of</strong> breastfeeding in three special breastfeeding situations<br />

• Name three popular beliefs and myths about breastfeeding and explain how they<br />
