RASHTRIYA ISPAT NIGAM LIMITED Customer Relations Management - Initiatives During 2011-12 several measures were undertaken to improve the Customer service. Some of these actions taken are as given below: Booklet on Rural Marketing of RINL was prepared, which was released by the Hon'ble Union Minister for Steel during a conference held in Lucknow in Nov'11. facilitate faster handling of materials inside the stockyard. A quality testing laboratory was approved by RINL at Mumbai for local analysis of the samples for quick settlement of the quality complaints of the customers. Customer Meets are organized regularly at Release of Booklet on Rural Marketing of RINL by Hon'ble Union Minister of Steel With a view to focusing on the customer service, RINL Customer Policy was released by Secretary (Steel), Govt. of India, in October 2011. Up-gradation of RINL stockyards was taken up Branches, Regions and Head Quarters. Partners' Summit was organized at Head Quarters for 2011-12, during 25 th and 26 th April 2011. The inputs from this Summit were utilized for formulating the Marketing Policy for the year. Release of Customer Policy by Secretary at Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Vizag. Rail track was laid inside Nagulapalle stockyard at Hyderabad connecting the Public siding to Partners' Summit held at Vizag on 25 th and 26 th April 2011 16
30 th Annual Report 2011-12 Materials Management Department Materials Management Department (MM) is responsible for timely procurement, receipts and supply of raw materials, equipment, spares, consumables etc., at market competitive prices by following the extant purchase policy, guidelines, procedures etc. Materials Management Department consists of Purchase, Transport & Shipping, Stores & Vendor Development cell. Materials Management - Purchase : Materials Management -Purchase Dept. has handled approx., ` 9,267 Crores worth of procurement. 6,312 Nos. of orders were placed for spares, consumables, Refractories (` 1,241 Crores), Indigenous Raw Materials (` 3,239 Crores) and Imported Raw Materials (` 4,788 Crores). Raw Materials Securitization : RINL is the only main steel producer having no captive sources of major raw materials like Iron Ore, Coal etc. With a view to securing consistent supply of major raw materials and other raw materials, the following measures have been taken: a) Long Term Agreement (LTA) has been signed with NMDC for supply of 10.5 million tonnes of Iron Ores (IOF, IOL, CLO etc.) to meet the requirements of the Company upto 6.3 million tonne. Besides, efforts are also being made to develop other sources of supply like supply from OMDC. A standing EOI has been placed in the Website for developing other sources. In response to the EOI, Seven parties have responded and their offers are under technical examination. b) At present, requirement of Coking Coal is around 4 million tonnes. For supply of Coking Coal, LTA has been signed with Reputed Suppliers like BHP, Anglo and Peabody of Australia; Logan& Kanahwa and Alfa Coal of USA, Solid Energy of New Zealand. Supply of Coal through LTA was negotiated in Empowered Joint Committee of SAIL and RINL. Global Open tenders are also floated for procurement of Coking Coal. Besides 17 this, one standing EOI has been kept in Website for developing of new sources of Coal supply. At present, Five nos. of coals are under different stages of tests like Laboratory, Pilot Oven etc. for taking trial shipments. During 2011-12, critical situation arising out of failure of LTA supplier M/s. Anglo during 2 nd and 3 rd quarter of 2011-12 owing to force majeure condition of mine roof collapse was handled by taking swift action in arranging alternate coal from other suppliers. During this year around 3.7 million tonne of imported coking coal was shipped and received. SMS Grade Lime Stone : Leveraging coast based location, 5,25,000 Tonnes of SMS grade Lime Stone has been sourced from UAE through Global Tender with reverse e-auction resulting in substantial savings vis-a-vis Landed Net of Cenvat Price (LNCP) of indigenous Lime Stone. Medium Coking Coal : Requirement of Medium Coking Coal of around 5 Lakh Tonnes p.a. and Boiler Coal of around 16 Lakh Tonnes have been tied up for long term supply through Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) with CIL. Other minor raw materials like Ferro Alloys etc. have also been procured at highly competitive prices through open tender and e-auction and timely supplies have been made. Transport & Shipping (T&S) : During the year 2011-12, a quantity of 4.096 million tonnes of bulk materials have been transported through 54 vessels. Due to initiatives like taking Cape Vessels by combining requirements fixing disports based on cost economics on vessel to vessel basis, an amount of ` 55.29 Crore is the estimated saving to the company. MM (T&S) - Smalls Section successfully completed the import of complete NEDO project equipment from Japan for waste heat recovery from sinter bed cooler under EPCG license.
