High Melton’s food hall serves a 

wide-range of quality food and 

drinks, from grabbing something 

on the move, to a more leisurely 

lunch. Food is freshly made using 

local produce, with a number of

buy a great cappuccino and other 

hot drinks from the new coffee 

bar. Opening hours are from 

8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday-Friday.

remainder have toilet and 

bathroom facilities close by. Some

Travel to University Centre Doncaster couldn’t be easier. The High Melton 

campus is a 15-minute drive from Doncaster city centre, and The Hub is 

in the centre of Doncaster, only a short walk from the city’s train and 

bus stations. Doncaster has excellent transport links. 

We’ve got a new airport, trains to 

London take just 95 minutes and 

we’re only a stone’s throw away 

from cities like Sheffield, Leeds

Doncaster is situated just off the 

M18 motorway (junction 3), which 

is easily accessible from the M1

RELATE INSTITUTE 

University Centre Doncaster is 

home to The Relate Institute, a 

centre of excellence for 

relationship studies. It was 

established in July 2006 as a result 

of a unique and innovative 

partnership with University 

Centre Doncaster and Relate, the 

national relationship support 

charity. The Relate Institute offers 

a unique Postgraduate Diploma in 

Relationship Therapy, equipping 

and qualifying students to work 

with couples, families and 

individuals on relationship issues. 

Current research activity at the 

centre includes the following 

areas: domestic violence and 

abuse, work with children and 

young people, and measuring 

outcomes in respect of the 

250,000 yearly counselling 

sessions provided by Relate. 

Journals and conferences 

Both the ‘Journal of Music’ and 

the ‘International Journal of 

Performance Arts’ were founded 

and edited at the University 

Centre Doncaster. We regularly 

host conferences such as the 

International Conference of 

Digital Technologies and 

Performing Arts. Our staff keep 

their scholarship up to date by 

attending and giving papers at 

national and international 

conferences and workshops, as 

well as external examining at 

other Universities and colleges, 

and undertaking doctoral study.

Sarah Crossland is the Site 

Librarian at University Centre 

Doncaster, and has recently 

completed the MA in Education 

Innovation and Enterprise at the 

University Centre Doncaster. 

I chose the course as I thought it 

would be really interesting. It was 

looking at innovation and 

enterprise within education and 

how Learning Resource Centres 

can use new and emerging 

technologies to greater effect to 

support teaching and learning 

activities. From very early on I 

thought it would be something I’d 

like to do. 

The course is designed so that 

regardless of your background, 

you can apply the modules to your 

own area of professional practice. 

We were able to tailor it to our 

own work and focus in on the 

areas which were of particular 

interest. 

We all had such varied 

backgrounds, we learnt a lot from 

each other. 

THE BENEFITS TO MY EMPLOYER 

I think from my perspective, it 

helped me to look at the role of 

learning resources; how we 

support learners, but also how we 

support our academic colleagues 

in their teaching practices. 

The course helped me develop 

resources such as an electronic 

plagiarism tool, which is now 

used in the University Centre. 

As part of my dissertation I 

surveyed 50 students to find out 

how well, or otherwise, they were 

supported by the University 

Centre’s distance learning. I’m 

now using that information to 

implement changes, which will 

improve the support and 

guidance that we are providing.
