“<strong>Wine</strong>maker and part owner, John Kongsgaard, produces these wines in partnership with the well-known auctioneer, Fritz Hatten. There are approximately 600 cases of<br />
the Merlot and Merlot/Syrah blend, and 500 cases of the Cabernet Franc/Merlot proprietary red blend. Readers should not expect the Arietta Merlots to taste like anything<br />
made from this grape elsewhere in California. Everything is fermented and aged in 100% new oak, and bottled without fining or filtration.” Robert Parker<br />

amazing six weeks macerating on its skins. The opaque bluish/purple color is<br />
accompanied by gorgeous aromas of plum liqueur intermixed with figs, chocolate,<br />
smoked meat, and cassis. Powerful and dense, this infant wine reveals huge stuffing<br />
as well as exceptional structure and length. It’s an immensely impressive beast!”<br />

“The 1999 Merlot (which includes 10% Syrah) exhibits a Pomerol-like character.<br />
It represents a synthesis in style between the elegance and complexity of a French<br />
wine, and the power and ripe fruit of a top-flight California offering. An opaque<br />
purple color is followed by aromas of cola, chocolate, and macerated jammy black<br />
cherries. This super-concentrated, high strung, packed effort appears to be as tight<br />
as a coiled spring. There is great fruit on the attack as well as an imposing structure,<br />
but it feels like that is all being held in check at present. Despite the big,<br />

graphite characteristics. Chewy, thick, and unevolved, it only hints at its ultimate<br />
