The Vineyard • October, 2003
Behrens & Hitchcock
“Did it occur to anyone else that these two seat-of-the-pants winemakers, along with
several dozen other talented producers in California, may well be rewriting the definition
of great wine Think about it. To reiterate, virtually all of these wines are sold via mailing
list.” Robert Parker
Two New Releases
2001 Merlot Las Amigas ..................................................................................39.99
The cool Carneros vineyard source of this wine creates a unique style Merlot. While lighter in body than the Oakville
Merlot, it is a well-structured wine with sound acidity that balances the tannins. Floral notes, blackberry and vanilla are in
the nose followed by raspberry and red fruit flavors. Joe Bob said, “this is a wine ready to drink tonight,” and that’s just
what he did. You’ll love this wine, too. 100% Merlot. 450 cases produced.
2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa.......................................................................49.99
The 2000 vintage of this wine was their first venture into a multi-vineyard blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, and it exceeded
all of their expectations. The 2001 offering continues this new tradition. While they consider many of their 2001 wines to
be ageing wines, this offering is very approachable now with soft tannins and fully developed flavors. You will be able to
enjoy the nose of cherry and toasty vanilla with blueberry, lavender and cinnamon flavors. This wine is soft, clean and pure
with a lingering finish that make you want more. Don’t miss out on this great expression of the 2001 vintage.
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc. 400 cases produced.
Grande Année
Rated 95/100, Wine Spectator
A glorious ‘96, full-bodied and powerful.
Complex nose of grains, ginger and baking bread
turn to honey, citrus and nuts on the palate as it
unfolds. Very firmly structured and intense, followed
by a long nutty aftertaste. A champagne
for food. Superb. Best from 2005 through 2020.
