An Exceptional Buy!
1999
Quinault L’Enclos
St. Emilion
“This is an emerging St.-Emilion superstar run by Dr. Alain and Françoise Raynaud. Situated within the Libourne city limits on gravelly soils, Quinault could be
called the Haut-Brion of St.-Emilion given the fact that it 1) is totally surrounded by a clos (wall enclosure), 2) is within the city limits, and 3) possesses stony topsoils.
Since their first vintage in 1997, the Raynauds have taken this 37-acre walled vineyard to new heights. They continue to experiment with concentration techniques, but
the wine that ultimately results from a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc is beautifully pure and elegant, with considerable
aging potential. The last three vintages have been profound…This elegant, exotic, lush, medium-bodied, Burgundian-styled St.-Emilion boasts great complexity along
with an enticing perfume of blueberries, blackberries, and flowers. Although it does not possess a great deal of weight, it offers pure fruit, sweet tannin, and no hard
edges. This is a textbook example of Bordeaux at its richest and most elegant. It will be delicious in a few years, and evolve gracefully for 14-15 years.” Robert Parker,
rated 93/100
“Full ruby-red. Nose of roasted tobacco, mocha and currant offers considerable sex appeal. Silky, vinous and long on personality; warm iron and graphite notes add complexity
to the red and black berry flavors. Very rich and deep. Finishes quite long, with
lovely dusty tannins. With his third commercial release, Raynaud has produced a wine
that proves the high quality potential of his site…The ‘99, bottled in January with a
light fining but no filtration, has turned out splendidly; I would have picked it blind
as a top Pomerol.” Steve Tanzer, rated 92/100
produced on a large scale. Many vintage wines are limited in availability and, when they go out of stock, are usually not replaceable. New vintages and other similar wines replace those that are
no longer available. All of our wines are stored in a climate-controlled environment, and we take great care in checking the condition of the wine we purchase. However, as is tradition in the
wine trade, all bottles over 10 years old, are at the buyer’s risk. Every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, but in the event of a misprint, the price posted in the store will prevail.
Delivery: We use several ground carriers. For a normal ground shipment, allow 8 to 10 days to receive your order after it has been processed. Ground Rates are better for six or more cases
shipped to one location. Please inquire about rates for all shipments, as they are based on weight and delivery location. Affordable Second Day Air services and Next Day Air services are available
anywhere in the continental U.S. We cannot ship to a Post Office Box. On all residential deliveries, there will be a $2.00 upcharge. The purchaser is responsible for the claim of damage or
loss once the product leaves our premises. Note: Starting July 1st, 2002 all purchases
will automatically be charged 1% of the total purchase for insurance. Please be aware
that claims are difficult due to the myriad of alcohol transport regulations. We reserve
the right to hold wine orders up to 90 days before shipping as a quality control measure.
Wine can be damaged by temperature extremes. We will not ship if the temperature
in our area is above 75 degrees or below 40 degrees. It is your responsibility to
advise us what temperatures are in your area. We cannot be held responsible if you
request shipment and the wines travel in a climate outside an acceptable temperature
range. We will hold and store wine purchases up to 30 days. After that time a $3.00 per
case per month charge will be automatically assessed. Any cancellations are subject to a
10 percent restocking penalty. Occasionally, irreplaceable bottles will be broken in shipment
or somehow mishandled in the delivery system to us. In the event any wines do
not arrive, or are damaged in shipment to us, or are damaged by us prior to shipment
to you, we will make every effort to substitute, subject to your approval, wines of equivalent
value. Should we be unable to make an acceptable substitution, we will then
refund your payment together with 5 percent simple interest.
