The Vineyard • October, 2003 EHREN JORDAN, WINEMAKER EHREN IS ALSO THE WINEMAKER AT TURLEY VINEYARDS NEW RELEASES -FALL 2003 2002 Chardonnay ‘Carneros District’ 2002 Chardonnay ‘Napa Valley’ 2002 Chardonnay ‘el Novillero’ “In recent months, all of us at Neyers Vineyards have been gratified at the wine media’s response to our several bottlings of Chardonnay. This began last December with a ‘hat trick’ in Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar. Our three newly released bottlings of 2001 Chardonnay were scored 90 Points, 92 Points and 91 Points, In January we were included (twice!) in the Wine & Spirits Magazine annual list of ‘The 100 Best Wines of the Year.’ Of the 100 top wines listed only four were California Chardonnay, and two of these four wines were from Neyers Vineyards. Our 2000 El Novillero Chardonnay and our 2000 Napa Valley Chardonnay were both given a score of 94 Points. A few days later, The Wine Spectator listed our 2001 Carneros District Chardonnay in the January 15, 2003 issue, scoring it 91 Points. After another week went by, we learned that California Grapevine had included our 2001 Napa Chardonnay in its February-March, 2003 issue as the First Place finisher in one of that issue’s tastings, rating the wine ‘Very Highly Recommended’ with a score of 91d The Wine Spectator reviewed our 2001 Thieriot Vineyard Chardonnay, scoring it 94 Points, and observing ‘…Deeply concentrated, (the wine) is remarkably complex.’ While Sophocles did indeed write ‘For God hates utterly the bray of bragging tongues,’ I think it was Dizzy Dean who said, ‘It ain’t bragging if you done it.’ Not surprisingly, those 2000 and 2001 wines are sold out. But Ehren has a new set of offerings for us, and, after tasting them, we’re convinced that we’ve got new wines in the bottle every bit as good. You be the judge.
