Results<br />

Johns Creek.—In both 2003 and 2004, large numbers of juvenile <strong>Ch<strong>in</strong>ook</strong><br />

salmon were present <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dex reach of Johns Creek <strong>in</strong> February and March (Figure<br />

33). Peak abundance was 632 <strong>Ch<strong>in</strong>ook</strong> salmon on March 5, 2003. Numbers gradually<br />

decreased from late March through May and few <strong>Ch<strong>in</strong>ook</strong> salmon were present <strong>by</strong> the<br />

beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of June. In February, the mean length of juvenile <strong>Ch<strong>in</strong>ook</strong> salmon <strong>in</strong> Johns<br />

Creek was approximately 40 mm FL and <strong>by</strong> the end of May they averaged 74 mm FL<br />

(Figure 34). As they grew they used progressively deeper areas of the creek, from 0.28 m<br />

<strong>in</strong> February to approximately 0.5 m <strong>in</strong> May (Figure 35).<br />
