School-Related Employee of the Year Finalist
Karen Kalarchian, Micro Tech
Sawgrass Elementary School
Karen Kalarchian is a mover and a shaker at Sawgrass Elementary
School. Starting as a volunteer for the school, she has become so
much more for the staff, for the parents, and most importantly
for the students.
As the Micro Tech, Kalarchian checks and double-checks all the
technological facets for Sawgrass. She spends her summer hours
making sure computers are up to date and ready for the following
school year. In addition, she is the greeter at the school gates,
often being referred to as the “Gate Keeper” by the students. Her
selfl ess attitude as the transportation liaison moves Kalarchian to
provide parents with her cell phone number as a mode of contact
if ever an issue should arise with the school bus in the morning
or at dismissal. Kalarchian is constantly shaking things up in the
community with community beautifi cation projects, Earth Day
Celebrations, clothing drives and parent nights.
Kalarchian has a warm and gentle demeanor that starts in the
morning, and continues through the day. More than a Micro
Tech, Kalarchian’s dedication is felt throughout the school and
the community.
