Teacher of the Year Finalist
Marie Rho
Lauderdale Manors Elementary School
With a positive attitude and love of children and their families,
Marie Rho’s third grade students are fortunate to have her as their
teacher. Teaching for eight years, Rho has never started the year
with preconceived notions of her students. She believes a positive
mindset, setting goals and having high expectations is all she needs
to make sound decisions about how to best support and serve
her students. “Decisions made for the good of my students will
ultimately impact their growth and achievement,” said Rho. “It’s
imperative as educators that we strive to not only meet the demands
of state mandates, but to also put the needs of our students fi rst.”
While providing a well managed, organized and academically and
developmentally focused classroom, she has an excellent rapport
with her students and knows how to identify her student’s strengths
and weaknesses. She believes in her students and encourages
them to be the best they can be, shows a sincere interest in them as
individuals and is consistently fair in dealing with them. Rho’s calm
and sensitive personality immediately puts parents at ease and she
understands that a strong and positive relationship between home
and school works magic on students’ success.
As a member of the Lauderdale Manors family, she is involved
with the improvement of her school and was instrumental in
implementing a Broward Education Foundation grant to improve
family literacy for the entire school. She gives generously of her
time and often works beyond the school day to tutor and assist
when necessary.
