Assistant Principal of the Year Finalist
Elpidio Muniz
Indian Ridge Middle School
Elpidio Muniz is described by his colleagues at Indian Ridge Middle
School as a strong communicator with a gentle nature and calm
demeanor. In his role as an assistant principal at the school for
eight years and a total of 12 years of educational experience, he has
demonstrated his ability to be an extraordinary leader and motivator
exhibiting compassion, communication skills, and innovative
program development.
The faculty at Indian Ridge Middle has greatly benefi ted from his
profi cient communication skills when disaggregating school-wide
data to convey complex information in a tangible way for deeper
understanding of their students.
Muniz provides individual mentoring to students who struggle
academically and/or emotionally, and works with all students to help
them succeed and reach their greatest potential. In January 2013,
Muniz was instrumental in creating a mentoring program for at-risk
Hispanic middle school girls with the assistance of the Parents,
Business and Community Partnerships Department and the School
Board chair. Thirty-six Hispanic sixth grade girls were designated to
pilot the program. The girls and their mentors have created a bond
that is truly amazing and parents of the girls have commented on
how excited their daughters are about coming to school and pleasing
their mentors. His vision is to provide a framework for this program
to benefi t other Broward County middle schools in the future.
An inherent ability to lead in a manner that inspires and promotes
growth in others, Muniz has earned a highly regarded reputation
among his colleagues
