Assistant Principal of the Year Finalist
Dr. Cathy Bonner
South Plantation High School
There are numerous individuals impacted by Dr. Cathy Bonner
on a daily basis through her ongoing partnerships and visionary
approach to instructional leadership. With nine years of educational
experience, two of those years serving as an assistant principal at
South Plantation High School, Bonner believes that education will
continue to become increasingly specialized and multifaceted in
order to effectively address student achievement in the evolving
educational marketplace.
Her most signifi cant contribution to date is The Algebra 1 EOC
(End of Course) Retake Summer Tutorial Program in 2012, which
addressed the needs of students who did not demonstrate profi ciency
on the Algebra 1 EOC exam and made the exam available to students
from South Plantation High School and Seminole Middle School.
The results indicated that many of the students who attended the
program received scores of profi ciency or above profi ciency for the
2011/2012 math results for Broward County public high schools.
Another project of Dr. Bonner’s was the fi rst Virtual Learning Lab
Program at South Plantation High. By enhancing student learning
and fostering community partnerships, this program afforded
over 450 South Plantation High School students the opportunity
to take and earn coursework credit to satisfy the new state online
requirement for graduation, as well as increase students’ GPA.
With her organization and assistance, South Plantation High
received many awards, honors and special recognitions. Dr. Bonner
has proven to be a pillar to the South Plantation faculty and staff,
students and the community.
