7. <strong>ICT</strong> Applications <strong>Bangladesh</strong><br />
Current Status of <strong>ICT</strong>/MIS <strong>in</strong> BARC <strong>and</strong> NARS Institutes<br />
Major f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs of the <strong>ICT</strong>/MIS needs assessment <strong>in</strong> NARS <strong>in</strong>stitutes <strong>and</strong> BARC<br />
(Rahman, 2010) revealed that forty percent of the NARS Institutes have permanent<br />
<strong>ICT</strong> setup, while 60% of the <strong>in</strong>stitutes do not have. Compared to other <strong>in</strong>stitutes,<br />
BARC <strong>and</strong> BRRI are <strong>in</strong> a better position regard<strong>in</strong>g <strong>ICT</strong> personnel work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the setup.<br />
Except BTRI all other <strong>in</strong>stitutes have their own dot gov Government) doma<strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
website under dot gov doma<strong>in</strong>. Among the NARS <strong>in</strong>stitutes; BARI, BLRI <strong>and</strong> FRI have<br />
Dynamic Website. All Institutes have Internet connectivity except Forest Research<br />
Institute. There is some makeshift arrangement for Internet connectivity at Forest<br />
Research Institute. Major MIS activities be<strong>in</strong>g run by the NARS <strong>in</strong>stitutes are F<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />
Information System, Personal <strong>Management</strong> Information System, <strong>and</strong> Library<br />
Information System etc. A summary of the major f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs of need assessment is<br />
presented <strong>in</strong> Table 9.<br />
