4.2 Semi-VMSES/E Licensed Product Definition
z/VM SDO Semi-VMSES/E Licensed Products are products that are not originally in VMSES/E format but
have been installed using the IBM recommended defaults. Because installation files are created and
many installation steps are already taken, this will reduce the time it will take to install this Licensed
Product. The installation procedure (the Innnnnnn EXEC, where nnnnnnn is the Licensed Product number
and the INSTFPP exec) are used to generate new files. All these files are delivered on the
Semi-VMSES/E Licensed Product tape.
After this process, the files are in VMSES/E enabled format which is supported by VMFINS (the
installation tool for VMSES/E). To install from a Semi-VMSES/E Licensed Product tape, the system must
be at z/VM SDO Version 5 Release 4.0. The Innnnnnn EXEC has been used for each Licensed Product
and will not be used again.
4.3 Semi-VMSES/E Installation Overview and Planning
The VMFINS EXEC will be used to install all Semi-VMSES/E Licensed Products This exec is supplied as
part of the VMSES/E component of z/VM and provides a consistent process for installing z/VM and
Licensed Products. The VMFINS command syntax is given in Chapter 6.0, “Semi-VMSES/E Licensed
Product Technical Notes” on page 161 for each Licensed Product. Installations may be done from any
user ID which has the authority to obtain write access to installation minidisks, write access to Software
Inventory Disk (MAINT 51D), and read access to VMSES/E Build Disk (MAINT 5E5).

The step-by-step procedures that follow are in two column format. The steps to be performed are in bold
large numbers. The commands associated with these steps are on the left hand side of the page in bold
print; additional information for a command may exist to the right of that command.
Each step of these installation instructions must be followed. Do not skip any step unless directed
otherwise.
Throughout these instructions, the use of IBM-supplied default minidisk addresses and user IDs is
assumed. If you use different user IDs, minidisk addresses, or SFS directories to install a Licensed
Product, adapt these instructions as needed for your environment.
The sample console output presented throughout these instructions was produced on a z/VM SDO
Version 5 Release 4.0 system. If installing Semi-VMSES/E product on a different z/VM system, the results
obtained for some commands may differ from those depicted here.
