About the authors
Timo Hellenberg (Dr. Int. Rel.) is the Head of the EU Affairs at the
Aleksanteri Institute, Finnish Centre for Russian and East European
Studies at the University of Helsinki. Before joining the Institute in 1997,
Dr. Hellenberg served as a research fellow at the United Nations
Department for Humanitarian Affairs (International Decade for Natural
Disaster Reduction). Dr. Hellenberg has also worked as a Special
Adviser (EU Affairs) to the Prime Minister of Finland (2003).
Sigrid Hedin has been working as Senior Research Fellow at
Nordregio since 2003. Her field of specialisation is the transition in East
European countries. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of
Social and Economic Geography, University of Uppsala, Sweden,
where she studied from 1999 to 2003.
