h) Deputy Director General of <strong>Police</strong><br />

i) Joint Director General of <strong>Police</strong><br />

j) Additional Director General of <strong>Police</strong><br />

k) Director General of <strong>Police</strong>.<br />

Provided that the ranks of Deputy Director General of <strong>Police</strong> and Joint Director<br />

General of <strong>Police</strong> shall be equated with the ranks of Deputy Inspector General of <strong>Police</strong><br />

and Inspector General of <strong>Police</strong> respectively referred to in the Rules relating to Indian<br />

<strong>Police</strong> Service and ranks so referred in any order, rule or statute before the coming<br />

into force of this <strong>Act</strong>, except when the intended reference was to the head of the<br />

police force in the State.<br />

3. The Government may, by general or special order, specify that any other<br />

phrases used to specify any rank under the service either of <strong>Kerala</strong> <strong>Police</strong> or any other<br />

State or of the Centre shall be deemed to be equivalent to any one of the above ranks.<br />

4. Nothing in the sub-section (2) shall be deemed to preclude the authority of the<br />

Government to create a new rank or to give a new designation to a rank specified<br />

therein.<br />

15. Government to Specify <strong>Police</strong> Organisation: Subject to the<br />

provisions of this <strong>Act</strong>, the police force shall consist of such numbers in each rank and<br />

have such organization, chain of command and such administrative powers, functions<br />

and duties as the State Government may by general or special order determine.<br />

16. <strong>Police</strong> Circle & Circle Inspector of <strong>Police</strong>:<br />

1. One or more <strong>Police</strong> Stations which are contiguous may be grouped as a <strong>Police</strong><br />

Circle.<br />

2. Every <strong>Police</strong> Circle shall be placed under the charge of a Circle Inspector of<br />

<strong>Police</strong> who will supervise and direct the functioning of the <strong>Police</strong> Stations under him.<br />

17. <strong>Police</strong> Sub Division & Sub Divisional <strong>Police</strong> Officer:<br />

1. One or more Circles which are contiguous may be grouped as a <strong>Police</strong> Sub<br />

Division.<br />

2. Every <strong>Police</strong> Sub Division shall be placed under the charge of a Sub Divisional<br />

<strong>Police</strong> Officer who will supervise and direct the functioning of the <strong>Police</strong> Stations and<br />

<strong>Police</strong> Circles under him.
