<strong>Jermuk</strong> is very similar to Czech Karlovi Vari spa resort, which h<strong>as</strong> 10000 visitors per<br />
month on average given the statistics for 2008.<br />
10. In view of the fact that <strong>Jermuk</strong>’s nature is <strong>as</strong> good <strong>as</strong> in Karlovi Vari, <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong><br />
considering <strong>Jermuk</strong>’s potential for the development of winter and other types of<br />
tourism it may be stated that the town’s perspective to become a destination spa resort<br />
<strong>as</strong> an alternative to well-known global destinations is fe<strong>as</strong>ible with the<br />
implementation of a target program (with the availability of the required investments)<br />
and with active and effective cooperation among all stakeholders (state and private)<br />
within this program.<br />
2. Conceptual Goals of the <strong>Jermuk</strong> Development Program<br />
11. The Conceptual Goals of <strong>Jermuk</strong> Development Program by 2012 are <strong>as</strong> follows:<br />
1) To turn <strong>Jermuk</strong> into an all-year spa resort that meets international standards through<br />
the development of the following main directions:<br />
a) A spa and winter sports destination <strong>as</strong> an alternative to prominent global (Alpine,<br />
Czech, German) destinations.<br />
b) An international chess championship center<br />
c) A pan-Armenian <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> international youth camp destination<br />
d) Cultural tourism destination<br />
2) To ensure 100 thousand visitors per year<br />
3) To incre<strong>as</strong>e the annual tourism generated income to 100 million USD<br />
4) To create 4000 additional jobs<br />
3. Priority Issues of the <strong>Jermuk</strong> Development Program<br />
12. The priority issues of the <strong>Jermuk</strong> Development Program are <strong>as</strong> follows:<br />
1) To design and develop infr<strong>as</strong>tructures for the town in line with the vision for “an<br />
architectural environment that is complete, maintained and attractive, that meets<br />
international standards and shows the best correlation with the national profile of the<br />
town, its specifics, traditions and historical-cultural heritage”.<br />
2) To improve <strong>Jermuk</strong>’s transportation network providing the town with ecologically<br />
clean means of transportation (electricity powered transportation, horse carriages,<br />
bicycles, rope ways) and with parking facilities<br />
3) To provide the town with high quality internet<br />
4) To integrate <strong>Jermuk</strong>’s sp<strong>as</strong> into the network of European spa resorts delivering high<br />
qulity services<br />
5) To turn the town into a center for international chess championships<br />
6) To establish individual districts, streets specialized in certain services<br />
7) To turn the town into pan-Armenian <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> international youth camp destination<br />
8) To develop human resources ensuring continuous training and requalification of<br />
personnel<br />
9) To provide the town with alternative roads and transport communication<br />
10) To establish <strong>Jermuk</strong>’s profile <strong>as</strong> a spa and winter resort <strong>as</strong> an alternative to prominent<br />
global (Alpine, Czech, German) destinations and adequately represent this profile in<br />
the international market<br />
11) To form <strong>Jermuk</strong>’s profile <strong>as</strong> an attractive and favorable all-year tourism destination<br />
