MRH Opens New
Physical Therapy Center
The outpatient services of the Physical Medicine Department began
operations in their new 9,000 square foot facility at 858 West James Campbell
Boulevard on May 1. Convenient outpatient therapy hours accommodate
those who require therapy before or after work. Dedicated parking,
in addition to a covered entrance, makes the center easily accessible at
the new location. The public was invited to an open house to tour the new
facility on May 21.
Features of the new facility include a spacious gym with state-of-theart
equipment, an area designed for pediatrics, a private registration area
and private treatment rooms. The staff room has windows to the office
area and gym, which create an efficient work area. The center has a staff
of 10 physical therapists, one occupational therapist, two speech language
pathologists and six support staff who provide rehabilitation services.
“We are thrilled with our new facility which is easily accessible and
convenient for our patients and staff. The new facility was designed with
our patients in mind, and the open gym with windows will provide a motivational
atmosphere for their therapy,” said Cindy Kington, Director of
Physical Therapy.
MRH Celebrates
annual service awards banquet
to recognize employees with five
years of service or more. Employees
receiving awards are
MRH Cancer Center Offers New
Brachytherapy Technology
Maury Regional Hospital’s Cancer Center recently added a new technology,
High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy, a cancer therapy that attacks malignant
tumors by placing a radioactive source within or adjacent to cancerous tissue.
This new therapy allows radiation oncologists to treat a variety of cancers in a
more convenient and efficient manner, according to Michael Sattasiri, M.D.
“HDR will greatly improve the quality of care we can provide to our patients
by allowing shorter treatment courses, thus reducing travel expenses,” said Dr.
Sattasiri. “This new technology not only allows patients to receive treatment
within a week but significantly speeds up the actual treatment time. We are very
pleased to offer this new technology, another service line that expresses our
dedication to win in the fight against cancer.”
The Cancer Center began using this new technology on May 15 and will be
able to treat lung, esophageal, gynecologic, breast, cervical and endometrial
tumors through the delivery of radiation from an internally placed radioactive
source. This new treatment has the ability to deliver a higher dose directly to the
tumor while sparing healthy tissue.

Health Talks: Oral, Head and Neck Cancer
Stephen E. Parey, M.D. and Shaun C. Corbin, M.D.
If you use tobacco products and/or consume
alcohol regularly, you are at increased
risk for oral, head and neck cancer. In fact,
more than 85 percent of these cancers are directly
linked to tobacco and alcohol use.
On April 21, otolaryngologists Stephen
Parey, M.D., and Shaun Corbin, M.D., offered
free oral, head and neck cancer screenings
and an informative seminar to the public.
Surgical/Medical Aspects of Kidney Stones
Anthony D. Khim, M.D. and Charlotte A. Batey, M.D.
Kidney stones are a major health problem,
affecting up to ten percent of all Americans
at some time in their lives. A kidney stone is
a collection of mineral salts and protein that
collect to form a solid crystalline mass. They
can start as tiny stones that pass in the urine
unnoticed, or they can grow to a size that cannot
be passed and become symptomatic. As
kidney stones move toward the bladder, they
can cause excruciating pain.
Dr. Charlotte A. Batey and Dr. Anthony D. Khim, urologists on the medical
staff at Maury Regional Hospital, presented a free seminar on May 9 to discuss
the formation of kidney stones, treatment options and strategies for prevention.
Dependent Age
Limitations on
Benefit Plans:
With high school and college graduation
around the corner, we would like
to take this time to remind you of age
limitations regarding your covered dependent
children.
Medical and Dental
Your dependent child can have coverage
under your medical and dental plan to age 19
or to 25 if a full-time student. Once your dependent
reaches 19 years of age, you will be
required to provide documentation to the medical
and dental insurance carrier annually that
your child is still in school (forms available in
Human Resources). If your child is no longer
an eligible dependent, please come to Human
Resources to delete them from your policies.
Once you have done so, we will mail information
regarding any eligible COBRA rights as
well as notify Payroll to change your monthly
deduction (if applicable).
Dependent Life
Coverage is available for your dependent
children (ages 14 days to 6 months = $500);
(ages 6 months to age 20 = $5,000); and up
to age 26 if continuing full-time student status.
If you no longer have eligible dependents
(spouse or children), you must sign a “delete
dependent insurance” card in order for Human
Resources to cancel deductions.
Provident - Take With Life
You may elect a “Take With” Life policy for
yourself, spouse or children. You may keep
individual whole life policies purchased on dependent
children with no age limitation (even if
married). Policy ownership may be transferred
to the insured dependent and premium rates
would stay the same. Dependents covered
under the “child rider” provision (rather than the
individual whole life policy) would only be covered
to age 25.
Aflac Cancer Insurance
Family coverage is extended to eligible
unmarried dependents to age 25. (See policy
certifi cates for details/exclusions).
