Maitland High School Assessment Outline
Core + Electives:
Preliminary Metals and Engineering - VET
The assessment components in this course are competency based. This means that students need to
demonstrate that they have gained and can apply the specific knowledge and skills of each unit of
competency. In addition to Assessment Events, some assessment may occur in an informal setting in the
classroom or during work placement. Competency assessment is graded as “not yet competent,”
“developing,” “competent’. This means a course mark is not allocated. Each student will also undertake a
mandatory 35 hour work placement.
Depending on the achievement of units of competency, the possible qualification outcome is Statement of
Attainment towards Certificate I Metals and Engineering.
