351; 352; 451; 452. SPECIAL STUDIES IN ECONOMICS.<br />

Open only to those students who have demonstrated to the<br />

satisfaction of the Department both the desire and the ability to<br />

do independent work. Students normally enter at the beginning<br />

of their junior year with the expectation of continuing during<br />

their seruor year.<br />

Credit, one to three semesterhours each semester, depending<br />

upon rhe quantity of the work done.<br />

403. INTERMEDIATE ECONOMIC THEORY.<br />

Emphasis on the theory of production and cost; the varieties<br />

of competitive conditions such as pure competition, monopoly,<br />

oligopoly, and monopolistic competition; the theory of factor<br />

pricing and income distribution. In this course the student is<br />

expected to deepen his knowledge of the principles of resource<br />

allocation under the price system.<br />

Three periods a week. Credit, three semester hours.<br />

406. BUSINESS CYCLES.<br />

A study of the cause of economic fluctuations, their description<br />

and measurement. Theories of business cyclessuch as those<br />

of Schumpeter, Hawtrey, Cassel,Keynes,Mitchell, and others are<br />

explored. Monetary and fiscal policies of government and their<br />

management for the purpose of economic stabilization are examined.<br />

The international propagation of business cycles is<br />

studied.<br />

A study of accounting for single proprietorships, partnerships,<br />

and corporations; manufacturing accounting; accounting<br />

for non-profit organizations.<br />

Real and personal property, contracts and torts, sales, negotiable<br />

instruments, business organizations, insurance and suretyship,<br />

landlord and tenant, bailments, carriers, trade regulations.<br />

Three periods a week. Credit, three semester hours each<br />

semester.<br />
