We§tern Maryland College><br />
AMERICA PROVIDES many excellent colleges for young<br />
c_./l people seeking higher education. An applicant should<br />
make certain that the college of his choice is of good<br />
and has ideals and objectives with which he is in accord.<br />
standing<br />
Western Maryland College is a liberal arts institution,<br />
accredited the Middle States Association of Colleges and<br />
by<br />
Secondary Schools and by the University Senate of the Methodist<br />
Church. It holds membership in the National Association of<br />
Schools Music and has the approval of that Association a<br />
of for<br />
Bachelor of Arts degree in applied music. It on the approved<br />

list of the American Association of University Women. The<br />
College is coeducational, the first institution south of the Mason<br />
and Dixon Line to open its doors to both young men and young<br />
women. A limited enrollment, with a ratio of one instructor for<br />
every twelve students, makes possible a close relationship between<br />
students and faculty and among the students themselves. Members<br />
of the faculty are chosen not only for their scholarship, but<br />
for their character, their ability to teach, and their willingness<br />
to counsel with students.<br />
Western Maryland College aims to produce graduates with<br />
qualities of leadership and a sense of responsibility for per·<br />
the<br />
sonal development and the advancement of society. At the same<br />
time it provides courses for professional training in stated areas<br />
as well as pre-professional training for those who plan continue<br />
to<br />
their education in various specialized fields.<br />

One of the distinctive features of the College is its emphasis<br />
character development. Chartered in 1868 under the auspices<br />
upon<br />
of the former Methodist Protestant Church, it is now one of<br />
the church-related colleges of the Methodist Church. While it<br />
is open to students of all faiths and makes religious tests of<br />
no<br />
any, it gives ample opportunity for moral and religious development.<br />
It urges all students to attend church on Sunday (Methodist,<br />
Lutheran, Episcopal, Catholic, United Church of Christ,<br />
Church of the Brethren, Church of God, Church of the Nazarene,<br />
and Seventh Day Adventist congregations are to be found<br />
in Westminster) and requires attendance each Sunday evening<br />
at the College Chapel Service. The students govern themselves<br />
by their own elected representatives who are assisted by faculty<br />
advisers. The College assumes that persons enrolling will respect<br />
