Stadium will create jobs
ONE of the most
famous phrases used
by Bill Clinton during the
1992 presidential
campaign was the slogan
“It’s the economy, silly!”
Well, it wasn’t the word
silly but another harsher word
that I tell my kids not to say.
However it is the economy,
silly. Redcliffe has high youth
unemployment figures
therefore the creation of
unskilled jobs is a must.
Planning, building and
construction of the proposed
Dolphin Stadium is estimated
to create around 13,500 man
hours. That’s only the
beginning.
We estimate the injection
into the local economy would
be in the vicinity of $32
million per year.
This income will come
from visitors attending
sporting carnivals, NRL
games and trial matches,
touch football carnivals,
rugby 7 carnivals, rugby
league Nines, Oztag carnivals,
trade fairs, conventions,
expos, company displays,
product launches, maybe the
Crusty Demons Daredevils or
Monster Trucks, soccer events
such as the A-League and
entertainment specials.
The Dolphins will make it a
fortress during winter and the
Peninsula Power Soccer
(sponsored by our Leagues
Club) will have home games
during summer.
If we can attract visitors to
Redcliffe and they stay one,
two or three nights, then the
impact into the local economy
is significant.
A study for Stadiums
Queensland noted that the
economic impact created by
the state’s major footy codes
was estimated to be $341
million per annum and that
nearly half the economic
impact created came from
spending at pubs, clubs,
restaurants,
hotels
(accommodation), transport
and other services.
The regular home games of
the various teams created
2,050 jobs in catering,
security, grounds staff,
transport and venue staff. So
if that’s the case, then let’s
create some unskilled work
desperately needed in
Redcliffe.
The total of $341 million
divided by 2050 jobs equals
$166,341 for the creation of
one job. So if we have a spend
of $32 million divided by
$166,341, that equates to 192
Don’t worry!

throughout Redcliffe. The
benefits to the local economy
are enormous.
The taxman gets the extra
share in taxes and the
Redcliffe economy gets
spending from people outside
the Peninsula.
That extra spending from
visitors is directly injected
into local small businesses
which, in turn, up their
spending for daily items used
in the delivery of their goods
and services and it goes round
and round. It’s the economy.
As I say, bring on the rail,
bring on the stadium and the
Peninsula will never look
back. Just ask Stocklands!

Dolphins Health Precinct, has
its founding innovator seeking
new challenges.
Kerry Sharp has left the

Kerry was heavily involved
in the design of both the
hydrotherapy/heated lap pool
and the fitness centre.
Kerry set up the programs
in both areas, resulting in the
gym and aquatic centre being

couple of years running.

tremendous job she has
completed. It’s been seven
very fruitful years with one of
the fitness industry’s leading
