Vision Statement
General aspects of the functioning of WASBE in 32 years of existence:
• Open the communication between composers, band directors and
institutions.
• Promote international Wind Band repertoire more than any other
organization in the world.
• Emphasize the need for high artistic level on the repertoire of Wind
Band.
Using an organizational format that worked well at the beginning,
WASBE has lost drastically number of members. WASBE should work
now to reverse this tendency, so that the organization will have
conditions to keep its activity.
It reflects the need for innovation, to be able to react to the current
Wind Band world, offering more than written material about music,
events and etc.
Proposals:
• Establish partnership with strong institutions around the world: The
Americas – North and Latin, Europe – West and East, Asia, Middle
East and Africa, which may become WASBE “houses”.
• Change the WASBE annual board meeting from Chicago to one of
those “houses” of the world, so that the board also has the chance
to learn about the regional situation of the Wind Bands and also use
the expertise of WASBE board member of the region. The Midwest
Clinic is a wonderful conference, but WASBE board needs more
than one day to define bureaucratic matters.
• Establish partnership with publishing companies: special prices for
members.
• Establish a WASBE publication of the repertoire not commercially
published on digital format, still respecting international
copywriters.
• Establish regional conferences amidst the big international one.
• WASBE needs to “sell” more the expertise of the Board to several
regions of the world in order to have the Board members doing
what they do better: teaching music and learning about the local
needs, in conjunction with the “houses”.
• Through regional conferences enable members’ active participation.
• Participations on the conferences: free for members.
• Recruiting process: what WASBE can offer distinctively the member
can find on the internet or other national associations.
• Evaluate what WASBE has offered to the regions of the world that
have the number of Wind Bands increasing more: Latin America
and Asia.
CANDIDATES FOR THE WASBE BOARD
Serge Bubisutti
I started to play the trumpet at
the age of nine, and two years
later joined the Conservatory of
Music in Mulhouse (Alsace,
France). During this period, I took
lessons simultaneously in Paris with
Andre Presle, and completed my
degree in Mulhouse after a decade
of study.
I also trained as a conductor at
the CDMC (where I work now),
and led three bands for twelve
years. Today, I am dedicated to my instrument again and play in
various organizations in my area regularly.
Vision Statement
For 40 years now, our association, the CDMC (Conseil Departemental
pour la Musique et la Culture de Haute-Alsace) has actively
promoted Wind Bands.
In 2001 we created the multimedia library, in which there are now
over 100 000 references, scores and recordings, about Wind Bands.
Today, I want to enter the WASBE Board to extend this work for
Wind Band literature, but also to manage funds that we have been
bequeathed by composers and international federations, as well as to
catalog and manage the funds and records of WASBE, which will
come to Guebwiller very soon.
I will also be available to translate information for the website and
documents issued by the WASBE into French.
Aware of the WASBE’s major role, particularly regarding contacts
between members, it seems to me that I could be an important link
with regard to the directory, and networking with potential libraries.
Peter Bucher
Highly experienced musician and
conductor from Lucerne who
studied in Switzerland and the
USA, awarded with first prices at
solo competitions in Basel and
Riddes. With his bands he won
several first and second prices at
national and regional band competitions,
his own Wind Ensembles
“Kantonales Jugendblasorchester
Luzern” and “Festival Wind Band”
gave more than 30 Swiss first
performances, Peter Bucher is WASBE no 44 and served as Conference
Chairman for the 10 th WASBE Conference in Lucerne in 2001,
Board member from 1998 – 2004 and conference mentor and
member of the APC for the Taiwan 2011 conference, he is head of
the Kreis Musikschule Hägendorf and copartner from PICO Kinderinstrumente
GmbH.
Vision Statement
I am interested in serving on the WASBE Board for the second time
in order that I may contribute to the following areas of interest:
a) help conferences to take place in countries where wind music is
neglected and thus a win-win situation for WASBE and for the
region
b) work to create future conferences that are more attractive for
younger conductors and composers
c) that the on-site planning of conferences is very well organized
