curse removed on seeing bhagavAn.<br />

SrI satyadevo vAsishTha uses the pATham 'byAvahaH', which has a similar<br />

meaning (avahan – to strike away, to fend off.)<br />

catur aSraH<br />

a) One Who is skilled in all aspects.<br />

b) One Who is fair to everybody.<br />

c) One from whom wishes are asked for.<br />

d) One Who pervades in all four directions.<br />

e) One Who nourishes and feeds everything in all four directions<br />

f) One Who is worshipped by the knowledgeable people.<br />

caturaSrAya namaH.<br />

The term 'catur' refers to the number 4, and 'aSra' or 'aSri' means 'corner'.<br />

catruasraH refers to the geometrical shape known as the square. The term has<br />

been used by some vyAkhyAna kartA-s as a reference to "One Who is fairminded,<br />

or fair to everyone". SrI cinmayAnanda explains the nAma as "One<br />

Who deals squarely with all". The term catura also means "One Who is skilled"<br />

– a reference to one's 'sAmarthya'. So He Who is skilled in all aspects is catraSraH.<br />

a) SrI BhaTTar uses the meaning "One Who is skilled in all aspects" as the<br />

meaning for the nAma "catur-aSraH". SrImad ANDavan explains that<br />

bhagavAn has this nAma indicating that He does whatever is appropriate in the<br />

benefit of the devotee under any and all circumstances. In the current<br />

context of gajendra moksham, He relieved the crocodile from it curse, He<br />

fulfilled the desire of gajendra to perform flower kainkaryam to Him, and He<br />

demonstrated to all of us that He will definitely protect those who surrender<br />

to Him, all with His one act of responding to gajendra's call the way He did.<br />

He could have taken care of the crocodile from SrI vaikunTham itself, but He<br />
