FAMILY MATTERS
37: Centenarians Take Pride in Being Good Parents
"A zest for life is one of the most important examples a grandparent
can pass on to their grandchildren." -- Unknown
Even though it’s not uncommon for their children to have already
passed on, centenarians enjoy talking about their roles as parents
and take great pride in having been good ones. When asked what
they want to be remembered for nearly all say they want to be
remembered most as a good parent -- more so than as a good
spouse, friend or employee.
In a very real way, centenarians get to experience childhood four
times -- their own, their children’s, their grandchildren’s, and their
great-grandchildren’s. That seems to help them stay young at heart.
