Six new dealerships, one architect
When the curved glass
facade of Adelaide BMW
was first completed it became an
instant local landmark. It was
clear that this dealership was
unlike any that Adelaide had
seen before and that Matthews
Architects had designed a
building of elegant and confident
form that captured the spirit of
BMW. The design declared
that a new vehicle showroom
could be much more than a place
to keep cars out of the weather.
When Matthews designed the
recent expansion of Adelaide
Motors an extra dimension was
added, one which brought
new vitality and meaning to
the building.
Matthews Architects also
completed renovations for
Adelaide BMW Motorcycles
and clearly established
their reputation as the
leading showroom designers
in Australia.
For Formula Honda at
Modbury, Matthews created a
building that evoked the
technical mastery and
understated energy that Honda
has come to represent.
Now fully completed and hard
to miss, the new CMI Toyota
Adelaide dealership by
Matthews has shown yet
another approach, one that is
again tailored to the dealership
and their services. With the
service department,
traditionally the back-of-house,
brought to the front on West
Terrace, a completely
transparent facade and no
internal visual barriers, every
operation of the dealership is
proudly on display. Matthews
Architects have again shown
their outstanding skill in creating
designs of power and elegance.
This building is unlike any other.
Matthews Architects have
remained Adelaide based since
they began 34 years ago while
working all over Australia and
much of China and have
maintained an unmatched
client focus.
Matthews Architects are
currently designing the new
Adelaide Motors Mini
showroom on the corner of
Hindley Street and West
Terrace, new West Terrace
premises for Lexus of Adelaide
and Adelaide City Great Wall
at Prospect.
