Responsibilities of Rehabilitation Officer:
The Rehabilitation Officer has the following responsibilities:
- to accept that rehabilitation needs to take place.
- to participate in the rehabilitation process, including providing support and
assistance to the disabled worker during absence from the workplace.
- to conduct regular case reviews with the Rehabilitation Counsellor at Work
Cover.
- in consultation with the treating medical officer and any other health
professional and staff, select appropriate alternative duties where required.
- to ensure that staff are aware of and have an understanding of the aims and
process of rehabilitation.
- to supervise injured staff so that they are provided with appropriate
meaningful and safe work.
- in the event of any injury/illness, the Rehabilitation Co-ordinator is to ensure
prompt action to develop a rehabilitation plan/program, or other action as
required.
- the Rehabilitation Officer is the link between the injured employee and
College, medical professionals, Work Cover and other parties.
- the role of the Rehabilitation Officer is to co-ordinate and monitor the
rehabilitation program as well as individual rehabilitation plans. The
Rehabilitation Officer will also keep adequate records of each injured
employee’s progress and report regularly to management.
Early involvement is essential for effective workplace rehabilitation, and the
Rehabilitation Officer should be notified of all injuries and illnesses affecting
work performance.
