As the CEO of the Beringer
Group based in Radnor,
Pa., Beringer follows his
own advice concerning business
matters first and then
passes the torch to his clients.
“Everything we do for clients
we do for ourselves,”
Beringer said. “My son is
our president and we have
our own succession plan. We
manage our own assets the
same way we recommend
to our clients. When we are
helping our family clients,
what we do for them is what
we have already done for
ourselves. Our client families
find that to be very useful.”
Beringer said this creates
an alignment in that his clients
know that he, as a business
owner, experiences and
sees the same needs they
have.
His experience is particularly
relevant in that Beringer
travelled the road of selling
a self-made business. In
1979, Beringer founded The
Mid-Atlantic Companies,
Ltd., which grew substantially
to become a nationwide
advisory firm with offices in
many of the major metropolitan
areas. In 1998, he sold to
First Union Bank.
Not quite ready to retire, in
2000 he gathered some key
members of his former team
and formed ‘The Beringer
Group,’ which not only enabled
him to provide a higher
level of service to a more targeted
group of clients, but to
return to the family business
