Amy Burton to be guest<br />
soloist for Western New York<br />
Chamber Orchestra concert<br />
Renowned soprano Amy Burton will<br />
be the featured guest soloist when the<br />
Western New York Chamber Orchestra<br />
presents “A night at the Opera” highlighting<br />
operatic and symphonic works<br />
of Mozart, in one local performance.<br />
<strong>The</strong> event will take place on Sunday,<br />
March 25 at 4 p.m. in the King Concert<br />
Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus.<br />
Ms. Burton will perform arias from IL<br />
RE PASTORE, LE NOZZE DI<br />
FIGARO, and DON GIOVANNI. Also<br />
included on the program are two symphonies,<br />
the SYMPHONY IN D major,<br />
KV 196, also entitled “La Finta<br />
Gardiniera”, as it began it’s life as a two<br />
movement overture to Mozart’s opera of<br />
that name. rounding out the program is<br />
one of the favorites of his repertory, the<br />
SYMPHONY NO. 40 in g minor K 550.<br />
Ms. Burton is one of New York’s most<br />
notable singers, having performed at the<br />
Metropolitan Opera from 1993 to the<br />
present. She is also one of New York<br />
City Opera’s leading sopranos, having<br />
appeared in more than a dozen productions.<br />
Burton’s diverse musical life<br />
encompasses opera, chamber music,<br />
recitals, orchestral concerts, and<br />
cabaret. Recognized worldwide, Ms.<br />
Burton has received rave reviews in<br />
opera and concert in Paris, Tokyo,<br />
Rome, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Glasgow<br />
as well as throughout the United States<br />
in cities including San Francisco,<br />
Boston, <strong>At</strong>lanta, Miami, Chicago,<br />
Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, San<br />
Diego, and Washington. In 2002, Burton<br />
was invited to sing at the White House,<br />
a performance that was broadcast<br />
nationally. As a champion of new music,<br />
Ms. Burton has performed numerous<br />
works by living American composers,<br />
including those of her husband John<br />
Musto, with whom she has performed at<br />
the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center.<br />
<strong>The</strong> two are in high demand for recitals,<br />
cabarets, and master classes. In 2009,<br />
Burton and Musto performed two sold<br />
out evenings of music written for French<br />
diva Yvonne Printemps in arrangements<br />
by Musto, at the Foyer in Barcelona’s<br />
Liceu Opera, and a recent concert of<br />
Musto’s music for the Van Cliburn<br />
Foundation was voted one of the Top<br />
Ten Musical events in 2010.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Western New York Chamber<br />
Orchestra, under the baton of Music<br />
Director, Glen Cortese, is in it’s 26th<br />
year and is the professional ensemble-inresidence<br />
at SUNY Fredonia.<br />
