Hubbard said one of the<br />

involved. “I spend a lot of<br />
time at the business. We<br />
are open six days a week.<br />
A person owning a business<br />
has to be focused and<br />
willing to work.”<br />
Yet she loves the business.<br />
“I continue because<br />
it’s all I’ve ever done. I<br />
want to make my dad<br />
proud that we’re carrying<br />
on a tradition.”<br />

<strong>The</strong> Creation Station at<br />

that is both a stained glass<br />
studio and a retail gift<br />
shop. <strong>The</strong> business concentrates<br />
on items made in<br />
America. It started about<br />
eight years ago. Cyndy<br />
Gailey said it is a family<br />
business for which she, her<br />
mother, and her son work.<br />
Stained glass works of art<br />
as well as beach glass<br />
items are for sale. Classes<br />
are offered, and in addition<br />
studio space is rented<br />
out to those who need a<br />
place to work.<br />
Gailey is excited<br />
because she recently got a<br />
commission to make two<br />
big stained glass windows<br />
for SUNY Fredonia which<br />
should bring more attention<br />
to her work.<br />
Concerning challenges<br />
for a small business, she<br />
said, “<strong>The</strong> big challenge is<br />
trying to get people to<br />
come in. With the economy<br />
now, things are a bit<br />
better, but I will be running<br />
a flea market to help<br />
with the bills.”<br />
When asked why she<br />
continues with the business<br />
Gailey joked, “If I<br />
was home, I couldn’t stand<br />
it. This is cheaper than<br />
psychiatrists!”<br />
Another newer business<br />
is Jesse’s Toy Box at 53<br />
West Main St. in<br />
Gowanda. Dave Gabel and<br />
his wife Sarah began in<br />
2006 by selling and shipping<br />
Jesse’s Toy Box<br />
Wooden Railway products<br />
from their basement. In a<br />
few years, they found they<br />
needed more space.<br />
In May 2009, they<br />
opened a retail store,<br />
which allowed them to<br />
expand and offer additional<br />
product lines. While<br />
they still ship their original<br />
product, the store now<br />
offers other products. <strong>The</strong><br />
goal of the business is to<br />
offer unique and high quality<br />
toys at a reasonable<br />
price.<br />
One challenge the<br />
Gabels faced was a<br />
byproduct of their success.<br />
According to Dave his<br />
business experienced rapid<br />
growth and “when a business<br />
is quickly growing,<br />
capital can be a problem.”<br />

focus of the business<br />
should be to ensure that<br />
customers would be treated<br />
to an experience that is second<br />
to none. Respect, honesty<br />
and quality of service<br />
would be hallmarks of the<br />
dealership.<br />
