Bexley Charity 6-A-Side Tournament – Bank Holiday Monday
Bexley’s annual 6-a-side for the Graham Kersey Trophy was held at Manor Way last Monday before
the rain came. Spectators, basking in the earlier sunshine were treated to a spectacle of attire and
antics on and off the field. The final was between Dartford CC and Bexley District Teach Cricket.
Despite some of the age differences, Bexley came close to beating the young, athletic Dartford CC
team. The return of the mighty Wilmo was a sight to behold, not only was his batting ‘elegant’, his
fielding on the boundary delighted the crowd! Luckily he had Joe Russell and Steve King to back him
up in the field and Paskie and Sully, along with George Lush to help him make it through the day.
The day finished with some lively games in the bar and out on the field, between Bexley and
Dartford – some of which are not for publication!
Richard O’Sullivan and James ‘Bomber’ Harris did a great job organising the day, along with the
ladies providing an excellent lunch and tea. A thank you to all who helped throughout the day
behind the bar, on the BBQ, umpiring, scoring and generally helping with clearing up.
Some £300 was raised for charity.
This year’s 6-a-side
Bomber gives the day the thumbs up but for some it’s just too much!
More photos of the day in the Clubhouse photo album.

Team Captain Profile
Rick Melbourne - 3 rd XI Team Captain
After only playing school cricket, Rick joined Bexley CC at 16
years old and started his senior playing career in the 3 rd XI.
As a goal keeper, he dived for every ball that came his way
and became known for his big hits. He still holds the trophy
for the fastest 50 in the Club, reached in 13 balls.
He became Vice Captain of the 2 nd XI, winning the league in
1992 and scoring his highest total of 115 but due to work
and family commitments, didn’t play for 11 years. In 2004
he returned, playing again in the 2 nd XI and in 2007 took on
the captaincy of the 3 rd XI.
“My main aim this season is to win the league and return the
3 rd XI to the Kent League, with the support of the players and
the Club. I enjoy the youngsters in the team, as it keeps me
motivated and active, running between wickets with young
legs.”
Streakers stop play at colt’s game
Dads and colts were distracted by two streakers, one male and one female, running round the
boundary during the U12’s cup match at Old Colfeians. The couple were 6 th formers celebrating the
end of their school days and stopped play, whilst everyone watched.

Theresa, Pam and Lisa
Since the early days of tea being provided by the Ladies of Bexley Village and served by their maids,
Bexley CC now has the reputation of providing some of the best teas in the County. With 6 teams to
cater for on a Saturday and 1 on a Sunday, a lot of careful planning and hard work goes on behind
the scene. The Committee also provides lunch and teas everyday during Cricket Week, along with
other events throughout the season.
They are always looking for new volunteers to join the Tea Rota, preparing food and transporting to
local venues. If your son / grandson plays for one of the senior teams, or you can spare a couple of
hours on a Saturday or Sunday, please offer your services. Training and support will be given, along
with reimbursement for costs. If every player nominated someone to do one tea throughout the
season, the load would be greatly lightened.
If you can offer your time please contact Pam on pwellard.burntash@yahoo.co.uk , or Lisa on
lisacampbell@hsbc.com or speak directly to Pam, Theresa or Lisa.
