Manor Way Opens for Business
Friday saw the first match to be played on the new outfield this season with an U16 team in action.
The sun shone as the stumps were placed in the ground for the first time this season. The outfield near the pavilion
still needs protection and spectators are asked to stay away from marked areas.

Men’s Matches
1 st XI
The preparations for the 1st XI season concluded with a trip to Hampstead CC, a Middlesex Premier League club on
Saturday 4 th May.
Having leaked 4 or 5 boundaries in the opening 3 overs on a very flat pitch, it was beginning to look like an
embarrassing decision to bowl first. However, the opening bowlers, Jason Benn and Maruf Chowdhury, soon found
their length and began to give their batsmen problems. Jason beat the bat on several occasions before final finding
the edge, which gave Bexley their first wicket, tidily caught by wicket-keeper Jimmy Peirson.
Jordan Parkinson came on to bowl first change and his spell of 6 overs, 1 wicket for 13 runs really gave Bexley the
initiative. The pressure built by Jordan's spell was evident when Min Patel came on to bowl. The Hampstead
batsmen were trying to increase the run rate against Min and paid the price. Min ended up with 4 wickets for 30 runs
off his 9 overs. After Jason and Maruf came back on to bowl at the Hampstead tail-end, we were very happy to be
walking off the field having restricted them to 177-9 off 50 overs.
Jason's figures were 10 overs, 3 wickets for 26 runs. Maruf went for 41 off his 10, picking up 1 wicket. Behind the
stumps, Jimmy took 3 very good catches and a stumping.
On such a flat pitch, the Bexley chase should have been a straight forward task. However, opening batsman Jack
Wells was LBW for 0 and then having faced only 11 balls, Jimmy Pierson also departed. It is worth mentioning
though that Jimmy managed to score 24 runs in that time including a huge 6 into the tennis courts!
With some of the Bexley middle order struggling to cope with the bounce, the score was soon 67-4 and it was turning
into a slightly more challenging run-chase than expected. However, when Min Patel joined George Wells at the
crease, things quickly changed. Min was in a particularly destructive mood, perhaps he was in a rush as it was his
daughter's birthday! Min smashed the ball to all parts of Hampstead, scoring 64 from just 44 balls. Maruf joined
George to push Bexley over the winning line, with George finishing on 52 not out and Maruf 14 not out. Aside from
the early scare it was a strong batting display, taking us just 30.5 overs to knock off the runs.
Another convincing performance from the 1st XI to cap off a successful pre-season campaign. Let's hope we can
transfer our form into the league season, which starts with a home game against Sevenoaks Vine on Saturday11th
May.
2 nd XI
The 2’s travelled down the A2 to play Rainham 1st XI. Winning the toss, Captain Dan Haley, opened the batting
with Archie Woodgate, putting on 128 on a soft and slow wicket, before Dan was bowled out for 68 off 75 balls.
This positive start was continued by the following batsmen and they reached 214 for 8 wickets in 40 overs.
With 2 large trees within a short boundary on one side and a very long boundary the other, it was interesting
watching the fielders. Rainham wickets fell regularly to some good bowling and generally tight fielding and they
were all out for 136 in 32.3 overs. Stanley Wells took 4 wickets off 5.3 overs for 29 and Nisant Sharma, Fraser
McWhinnie and Jas Bassan each took 2 wickets.
A special mention to Fred Woodgate U15, who stepped in at the last minute, taking an excellent catch and was
unlucky not to take a wicket off his 2 overs, when the ball hit the stumps but the bails stayed put!
The 2 nd XI play their first League match this Saturday, away at Sevenoaks Vine.
3 rd XI
The 3rds played Chislehurst and West Kent 1 st XI in their last friendly warm up game. Winning the toss, Rick
elected to bat first and was disappointed to only reach 163 all out in the 36 th over. Pete Mitchell top scored with 38.
Chislehurst and West Kent reached the total in 32 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Martin Pask, Ian Clark and
Jolyon Bond each took a wicket.
They start their League Campaign this Saturday playing at Dartford Grammar School against Holborough
Anchorians CC 1 st XI.
4 th XI
The 4ths game against Wilmington was cancelled due to the opposition unable to raise a team.
They travel this Saturday to Snodland to play High Halstow 2 nd XI for their first League game.
5 th XI
Saturday sees the 5 th XI in action for the first time this season in their match at Bexley Park against Chislehurst and
West Kent 3 rd XI.
ECB National Club Championship
On Sunday 12 th May the 1 st XI are playing at Hartley in the 2 nd round of the cup. The match starts at 13.00 and
spectators are more than welcome to cheer them on.
Men’sNets
These continue on Wednesday’s at the new time of 6.00 pm for all those playing in adult games.

Colt’s Matches
U16
The U16’s played their first match on Friday against HSBC at Manor Way. Winning the toss, Captain, Aiden
Griggs opened the batting with Jack Laing on the warmest evening so far this year.
Manor Way back in action Jonny tries for a 6
On 120 for the loss of 3, it was left to Jonny Regnier to try and hit a 6 off the last ball to achieve full batting points
in 20 overs. Unfortunately the HSBC bowler had other ideas and clean bowled him.
Despite a good start, the HSBC batsmen soon crumbled to the Bexley bowling attack and tight fielding on a
reduced boundary and were all out for 58 in 16.2 overs. Cameron Fisher took 3 wickets for 5 off 3.2 overs and
Anish Patel also took 3 for 19 off 4.
U15A
The U15A’s start their season away to Bromley this Sunday starting at 9.00 am
U15B
The U15B’s played Old Colfeians U15’s on Sunday at Manor Way. Winning the toss, Captain Alexander Hill,
elected to bat first. The team were all out for 111 in 22.4 overs. U13 Sam Barton top scored with 27, Daniel
Twigger 21 and James Burford 20.
Old Colfeians’ reached the target of 112 runs in 21.5 overs for the loss of 5 wickets, mainly scored by 2 batsmen
with the help of extras. Alexander took 2 wickets for 12 off 4 overs.
U13A
The U13A’s first game was against Bromley last Thursday. With Captain and wicket keeper, Alex Shanks, out of
action with Osgood Schlatter’s, Vice-Captains, Sam Barton and Shaun Evans, opened the batting. The team scored
109 for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. Jack O’Hare retired on 26 and Harry Cronin scored 20.
Bromley reached the target in 19.2 overs for the loss of 5 wickets in a very tight finish. Although Matthew
Dawson didn’t take any wickets, he bowled very economically and went for only 3 runs off his 4 overs.
On Tuesday they hosted Bromley Common at Manor Way and were determined to win this game. Shaun won the
toss and decided to bat first. Bexley managed to get over the magic 125 in the 20 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Shaun and Archie Hobbs-Moore both retired on 25 not out and Lucas Hart was caught on 23.
Excellent bowling and catches restricted Bromley Common to 66 for the loss of 7 wickets. Harry Golding took 3
wickets for 8 off 4 overs and Giacomo Di Castri took 2 for 8 off 3 overs.

U13A’s cont
U13A’s fielding at Manor Way
On Wednesday 8 th May, the U13A’s were again in action against Blackheath in the first round of the ECB U13
Cup, County rounds. Winning the toss, Blackheath decided to have a bat on their home track. Although generally
the bowling was of a good standard, some out of character sloppy fielding and dropping three catches allowed the
Blackheath batsmen to set a competitive target of 100 in their twenty allotted overs. Harry Cronin 2-9 and Sam
Barton, bowling one of the best spells of bowling seen in this age group, 2-2 off four overs, claimed the wickets but
this was not a classic U13A performance. The Blackheath bowlers had the bit between their teeth and very soon
Bexley were in all sorts of trouble. Apart from a solid 29 from Shaun and a sensible determined 13 from Harry
Cronin, only 10 other runs came off the bat. Brendan Carter (U12) wicket keeper deserves a special mention for
standing in for our injured keeper and did very well. But it’s fielding drills at the next training session!!! The lads
play Hayes CC in the next leg of this competition.
Steve G
U13B
Tuesday saw the U13B’s travel to Orpington. Winning the toss, Captain, Harrie Jensen, decided to bat first.
Brendan Carter retired on 25 and then came back in to be finally run out on 30, supported by Rohan Moon on 10
not out. 75 all out in 18.5 overs, which Orpington reached in 9.4 overs for 0 wickets.

U11A
The first league match of the season was away to Sidcup CC U11A and to carry on the usual run of form from last
year, the rain started as soon as we pulled into the car park, luckily not hard enough to stop the game.
Sidcup won the toss and chose to bat first. Bexley took an early wicket in the first over bowled by Nolan and well
caught by Rudduck, with the second wicket falling in the second over, thanks to a quick and accurate run out by
Henderson. Sidcup then put together a partnership that was hard to break, even with Bexley bowling well but
eventually was ended in the eleventh over by Henderson with another fine run out. A mention must be made for
Greenhead of Sidcup who batted very well and retired on 26. Our fourth and last wicket was bowled by
Henderson and caught by Jo Howard. Sidcup finished their twenty overs on a fairly decent total of 116 for 4.
Sidcup’s early bowling was a very good standard and Bexley’s batting started off a little nervy, losing two wickets
in the first four overs. Willis, who opened, was settling in the middle and batting very well, putting together a
decent partnership with Henderson. Henderson was eventually bowled out for 17 and Willis retiring on 25 shortly
after, however this partnership had given the team growing confidence and we finished our innings on 96 for 7.
In summary, it was an overall good team effort with any opportunity to take a wicket being taken. 96 was a
respectable score with the day belonging to Henderson and Willis. The work in the winter nets and so far this
season is definitely showing with improvements being made all over.
As usual Bexley had good support, who encouraged and applauded the boys throughout.
Dan Finnemore
U11B
The U11B’s played Sidcup last Thursday in their first hard ball match for Bexley
After winning the toss, Captain Marcus Ritson decided to bat first and Bexley scored 80 off their 20 overs for the
loss of only one wicket. Marcus top scored with 11 not out.
Tight bowling and fielding saw Sidcup all out for 54 in 18 overs. Thomas Sargeant took 2 wickets for 4 runs off 2
overs and Alexander Colcough cleaned up with a run out and 3 wickets for 2 runs off 1 over.
