the Shah RZ and asked, “Where is that book of Hadis which you were
reading?” The Shah RZ said, “I kept it somewhere and have
forgotten.” The Imam AS said, “Search it and bring it.” The Shah RZ
searched it and brought it. Then the Imam AS told Miyan Nizam RZ ,
“Read this book; there is Allah’s objective in it also.”
162. Prophet Esa AS has said, “I am not incapable reviving a dead
person by the command of Allah, but I am incapable of making a
foolish learned person comprehend (things).”
163. An ‘alim (learned person) in Khorasan came in the august
know the commandments pertaining to prayers (namaz).” Imam
Mahdi AS said, “What do I know! These people have grown such
long beards and they do not know even this much? Ask them to
learn by asking each other.” Then again some days later, the same
‘alim told the Imam AS , “Your people do not know how to say their
namaz.” The Imam AS said, “You try to say the namaz as these
people say.”
164. Once, Imam Mahdi AS said, “Necessary knowledge is needed,
so that they know the practice of prayers and fasting (etc.) and
perform their namaz correctly.”
165. The Imam AS further said, “The luminosity of faith is enough
to understand the meaning of Quran.”
166. One day, Hazrat Miran Syed Mahmood RZ was holding a
book in his hand. Imam Mahdi AS asked, “What is that book?” The
Miran RZ said, “It is Tamheed.” The Imam AS said, “Try remembrance
(zikr) so that a situation arises where you can understand it.”
167. Bandagi Miyan Abu Bakr RZ and Bandagi Miyan Syed
Salamullah RZ urged Hazrat Miran Syed Mahmood RZ to learn. The
Miran RZ said, “I will seek permission from the Imam AS .” He asked
the Imam AS about it. The latter said, “You do not go to their street.
96
Be in the remembrance of Allah till your batin (immanence)
opens.”
168. Imam Mahdi AS saw a book in the hands of Hazrat Miyan
Nizam RZ and asked, “What is this?” The Miyan RZ said, “It is Anis-ul-
Ghurba, Nuzhat-al-Arwah.” The Imam AS said, “Do not read it and
engage yourself in the remembrance of Allah so that by His grace
you achieve His Vision.”
169. Some days later, Imam Mahdi AS again saw a book in the
hands of Bandagi Miyan Nizam RZ and again he asked the Miyan RZ
reading. After a long time, the Imam AS asked, “Miyan Nizam!
Which was that book?” The Miyan RZ said, “Anis-ul-Ghurba.” The
Esteem (Allah) nothing is bestowed except ilm-e-ladunni (divinely
inspired knowledge), whether the person is a real ummi or spurious
(that is, who has been made an unlettered person later). This servant
(of Allah) has been made to forget whatever manifest knowledge he
had (achieved) earlier. Then he was brought nearer the knowledge
closest to Allah.”
171. Imam Mahdi AS has said, “The breast of an ummi (unlettered
172. Hazrat Malik Maaroof RZ is narrated to have asked Bandagi
