Harley Marine Services A Full Service Marine Transportation Company October 2012 During the month of September, Harley Marine Services recognized the women employed in our industry by celebrating with an Appreciation Luncheon in each port we are employed and operate. Overall, each lunch was a success and allowed our management to express our sincere thanks to the Women in the Maritime Industry. Thank you to each of you; you are an integral part of our business. Dutch Harbor On September 25 th , Pacific Coast Maritime gathered at the Grand Aleutian in Dutch Harbor to honor the Alaskan women in the maritime industry. From left to right in the back row you have Irene, Jenn (Horizon Lines), Riley, Shannon (APL), Dabbie (Alamar), Peggy (Port Director) and in the front row is Marie (Horizon LTL) and Joanne (Alamar). Seattle On September 14 th , Harley Marine Services hosted the Women’s Appreciation Luncheon at Salty’s on Alki. Twenty-four women joined for the festivities including our employees, customers, bankers and industry representatives. Harley Franco popped in to say a special thanks to all the women for their continued efforts within the industry and left us with a challenge to fill yet another table next year with more women. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day in Seattle overlooking the waterfront, a wonderful lunch and best of all, camaraderie within the industry. Alameda September 19 th , Starlight Marine Services celebrated the women of the San Francisco Bay with a luncheon aboard the Millennium Falcon. Over 20 women representatives from all aspects of the maritime industry joined Harley Marine on a beautiful cruise around the bay and along the city front while dining on the back deck. General Manager, Jonathan Mendes, gave a heartfelt thank you to all the women in the industry for all they do on a day-to-day basis. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather, scenery, and food. A special thank you to the crew on the Millennium Falcon who made the cruise a success. Los Angeles On September 6 th , Millennium Maritime and Westoil Marine Services celebrated and honored the women of the Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors with a luncheon aboard the tug Tim Quigg. Women from container companies, oil companies, terminals and port agencies joined Harley Marine on a cruise around the harbor while dining on the back deck with Captain Neal Maresca and touring the tug boat with Engineer Randy Atwood. Houston On September 20 th , Harley Marine Gulf celebrated their first Women’s Appreciation Day at Pappa’s Seafood House. They plan on a much larger crowd next year and expanding their contacts with other women employed in the maritime industry. 6
Harley Marine Services Safe, Responsible, Reliable, Efficient October 2012 Harley Marine Services Conducts Triennial Worst Case Drill By: Andre Nault On September 10 th and 11 th , Harley Marine Services performed their triennial worst-case spill drill in California. The drill was held at Harley Marine’s new marine facility at LA Pier 301 on Terminal Island in Los Angeles Harbor. The exercise lasted two days, the first day included Incident Command Refresher Training and development of an ICS 201, which was used to commence the drill on the second day. Day two was an all day table top exercise in which Harley Marine employees, including Spill Response Team members, as well as various agency and vendor company representatives responded to a mock spill scenario designed to test the response capabilities of the company to meet State of CA requirements as a spill plan holder. The training and drill included HMS personnel from Los Angeles, Alameda, Seattle, Portland, New York, and Houston. Other drill participants included Harley Marine’s spill response management team, O’Briens Response Management, our oil spill response organization, MSRC, and star contractors such as Patriot Environmental Services, SoCal Ship Services, and Double Barrel Environmental Services. Additionally, our salvage contractor, Resolve Marine Group, our legal team from Keesal, Young and Logan, our insurance carrier from Thomas Miller/UK Club, and our marine surveyors from Duncan/Shoemaker attended the drill to provide their professional input. Agency representatives from the United States Coast Guard, CA Department of Fish and Game, Office of Spill Prevention and Response, and CA Department of Finance also attended the tabletop drill. The drill was highly praised by the Federal and State on scene representatives and evaluators. The training and drill were a useful learning experience for all HMS participants, continuing to keep the emergency spill management team sharp. Thank you to all who attended and helped make the drill a success. 7
