David Ramey
and Ramey Wine Cellars}
“Get on the bandwagon as David Ramey is on top of his game…David
Ramey, who boasts an impressive resumé having worked during the
long-gone glory days of Matanzas Creek, then moving on to Chalk Hill,
Dominus, and Rudd Estate, has his own warehouse on the back streets
of Healdsburg. It’s his and only his, and he is now turning out 15,000
cases of seriously high quality wine, including four Chardonnay cuvées,
and three red offerings. While prices are not cheap, they are realistic as
purchasers get luscious mouthfuls of top-notch juice. Ramey reveals a
disarming modesty, but he is as serious as they come. All of these unfiltered
offerings represent tremendous expressions of their vineyard
sources.” Robert Parker
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon
Jericho Canyon Vineyard
“The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Jericho Canyon Vineyard (a 1,730-case cuvee of 76%
Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc) has an inky dark ruby/
purple color, a wonderfully sweet nose of espresso roast, fudge, blackberry, and cassis
with a hint of incense and smoke. The wine is full-bodied, broadly flavored, opulent, and
voluptuous, and that in itself seems to give the wine its current appeal, although I think
this is a candidate for at least two decades of cellaring.” Wine Advocate, rated 94/100
“Inky purple. Graphite and tobacco accented cherry and cassis aromas reminded me of
top-end Saint-Julien. Focused, pure red and black currant flavors are energized by
impressive mineral lift. This remarkably concentrated cabernet finishes with firm but
harmonious tannins and explosive sweetness.” Steve Tanzer, rated 93/100
