With lolly men, greasy pigs, mutton busting as well as all the arena action, there was plenty of excitement and laughs to be had all weekend. Between 3 and 5 August, the Curry Merry Muster Festival drew a record crowd of more than 5,000 over the three days. Friday night saw the annual Mardi Gras parade before action in the ring kicked off with the amateur events. On Saturday night, the crowd returned with revellers keen to witness the professional rodeo action and groove to Mick Lindsay on the main stage. Carlie Remfrey, Treasurer Curry Merry Muster Festival Committee says changes made to the layout of the grounds and organisation of this year’s festival helped make it the best rodeo yet. “We had all the action broadcast on the big screen for the first time this year and the changes to the layout of the chutes meant everything ran much more smoothly,” Carlie says. We also sponsored the annual Ernest Henry Memorial Art Show. This exhibition gives local artists the chance to showcase their original works and compete against other artists from across the country. There were 119 entries in this year’s contest, with the EHM Open Art division taken out by representational artist Christine Atkins for her piece titled ‘Memories’. While rain washed out Cloncurry’s first two race meets of the year, locals were bursting to attend the Spring carnival race days in September, October and November. October saw the most successful Cloncurry Cup Day yet, with over 600 people attending. In November, Cloncurry celebrated ‘the race that stops a nation’ trackside, making the most of our turn to host the north west regional Melbourne Cup race day. From bucking bulls to beautiful works of art, EHM is proud to support the events at the heart of our rich and culturally diverse community. mine to market 11
