Cloncurry celebrates the<br />

opening of a new community hub<br />

Cloncurry has capped off the August opening of the $8.1 million Cloncurry Community<br />

Precinct with the return of the <strong>to</strong>wn’s iconic Dazzle Ball.<br />

The ball returned as part of the<br />

opening celebrations for what has<br />

become the community hub of<br />

Cloncurry. Bringing back some of<br />

the ball’s most loved old traditions, like<br />

the infamous group pho<strong>to</strong> in the Shire<br />

Hall, ensured the event was a hit with all<br />

300 tickets sold out.<br />

The Cloncurry Community Precinct<br />

provides a modern space and functional<br />

facilities for our community. Ernest Henry<br />

Mining (EHM) contributed $2.75 million<br />

<strong>to</strong> the project, which includes the EHM<br />

function rooms, the Bob McDonald Library,<br />

the Dr David Harvey Sut<strong>to</strong>n Art Gallery, a<br />

catering area, and the refurbishment of the<br />

his<strong>to</strong>ric Cloncurry Shire Hall and Council<br />

Chambers, making it our biggest social<br />

infrastructure partnership <strong>to</strong> date.<br />

Myles Johns<strong>to</strong>n, General Manager<br />

EHM, says investing in and supporting<br />

our local community is an important part<br />

of the way we do business.<br />

“Our contribution <strong>to</strong>wards the<br />

Precinct reaffirms our commitment <strong>to</strong><br />

supporting growth and development of<br />

the <strong>to</strong>wn benefitting current and future<br />

generations,” Myles says.<br />

Andrew Daniels, Mayor of Cloncurry,<br />

says the project was an important<br />

miles<strong>to</strong>ne in Cloncurry’s development.<br />

“Opening this Precinct marks a start<br />

of new prosperity for our community.<br />

With this premier facility we can not only<br />

provide <strong>to</strong>p class venues, recreational<br />

and learning facilities for our community<br />

but attract new business <strong>to</strong> our <strong>to</strong>wn,”<br />

Cr Daniels says.<br />
