That, and the fact that I have not cried from such a deep place – ever. In the other relationship, knowing I am being asked to care for someone who harbored great rage toward me allows me insight into patience. Rewiring thoughts of hatred and rage does not happen overnight. It requires trust, and self-inquiry, and forgiveness, and love over a long period of time. The end conclusion of all our experiences is love. Getting there is our own unique and lifelong journey. Our relationships in this life are full of unconscious contracts; it’s just part of being here on Earth and having an incarnation. Being in a close relationship, we activate the ways we connect through wounding. Each of these habits, acquired through many lifetimes, has to be cleared so we can relate to each other heart-to-heart and free to be in this moment. By dissolving old storylines, we are able to write new ones, surrender the process to the Universe and allow ourselves to be remade. For me, physical pain was a true barometer of whether I was truly surrendering my karmic patterns. In areas where I was only pretending to surrender, the pain remained until I was able to enter it fully and dissolve my participation in it. This process took several more days and might be ongoing. In the healing session, my counselor said the release happens in waves, and indeed it did – one wave of emotion would arise to be cleared, followed t h e Jo u r n e y
