2. To complete the in school practical lab requirement for the dozer the learner must be able to<br />

demonstrate the following practical skills:<br />

Demonstrate the safe operation of equipment including observation of surroundings.<br />

Perform pre-start checks, start-up/shutdown procedures and monitor performance of the<br />

equipment.<br />

Perform daily maintenance tasks.<br />

Perform basic moves with equipment including:<br />

Move forward, stop, back up, stop, turn left and right stop (flat elevation).<br />

Apply park brake, lock out transmission.<br />

Shift transmission.<br />

Demonstrate control of blade by raising, lowering and changing the angle of the blade.<br />

Maintain blade angle in flat position (flat smooth to the surface).<br />

Move dozer into a simulated and marked parking area without hitting pylons. Apprentice<br />

must move dozer within 1 meter of the back pylon without driving over the pylon or hitting<br />

the side pylons. (Pylons must be set to have a tolerance of 1.5 meters on each side of the<br />

dozer. One 90 degree turn must be made on route to parking area. (Pylons must be<br />

placed so they are visible to the driver).<br />

Push tire 200 meters using the grader blade without losing it.<br />

Create a windrow of 100 meters without gouging or driving over it.<br />
